Great list. I never knew so many titles were not available Region B. Always thought it was the opposite. Realize the confusion was not being released in North America though region free elsewhere. Especially with all the region A only coming from Asia.

Yes, I would need an all region player if living in Great Britian.

Did not mean to infer that Region B were mostly auto conversions. Was referring to those many titles coming out of Germany that received poor processing reviews.

By the fall of 1953, the film was completed and ready for unveiling, though it's doubtful any previews were shown in 3-D. What is known is tweaking was still going on, as evidenced in this Inside Hollywood report from September 28, “Following sneak preview of 'Lost Treasure of the Amazon' at the Picwood Theater, Pine & Thomas has scissored from the film Fernando Lamas singing “This Night.” According to Thomas, it wasn't that Lamas' larking didn't measure up, but that the song didn't fit. 'Treasure' is an action adventure film.”

I always enjoy these articles. Hillary writes very well here, and after poring over those old trades and publicity prose seems to have a good understanding of what to take with a grain of salt and when to read between the lines.


All these decades later and I still find it regrettable to read about their plans for further 3-D pictures and the miserable flat release that failed to draw audiences. ...I hope we're not going through similar times right now! Too bad for the people that never lived to see it as it was filmed, but this 3-D restoration will go some good way to correcting that historic injustice!

Thanks to the incredible documents found by Mike Ballew, you will learn that JIVARO was technically one of the finest photographed Golden Age 3-D features!

This gives the movie billing a contemporary 3D touch that they use in todays 3D titles.

- thanks, I figured if it was in the article, you'd have looked in to it! I know from examples of other films of the time, it doesn't seem to have been standard practice to retain outtakes and excised scenes for long.

I look forward to learning more about Mike's research. It's a shame that they pulled the plug on 3-D at a time when the expertise and experience was really starting to add up. Of course I always wonder about the films that would've been next had 3-D's Golden Age had lasted just a little longer. I suppose it's pointless to bemoan the mistakes of the past, but all that hard won know-how and first-hand competence was certainly missed during the various 3-D revivals.

... I like the hyphen, and I prefer to use it when talking about vintage 3-D! I have a sort of mental association where the '3' represents the foreground subject (with rounded form) and the 'D' is the background depth, and the hyphen is the distance separating them. I feel like that little dash symbolises that special something extra that you get with really great 3-D.

I never use it when talking about modern conversions or disappointingly shallow 3D. If the 3d is sufficiently dismal, I won't even bother capitalising the d. I also wouldn't use it when talking about 3d computer models.

I don't claim this to be the grammatically correct standard, it just reflects my personal biases!
