Just having SW on blu is good enough for me. My preference is DTS HD MA, but on playing other BD DD True HD, I have to say it does kick some serious dynamic butt from my speakers. Just bring on SW with either encodes.

It's a really interesting matter you know? but not just about which audio codec but wether it's 5.1 o 7.1, it's a really hard decision, in my opinion i think audio is a really really hard topic and to the date I find it really confusing, I've a sony bdv e300 which plays both dts hd and dolby true hd, in the past when i heard dolbyD and DTS i really prefered DTS but now y find dolby true hd somehow better and it's hard to believe since dts hd MA is less compressed, as I said audio is a pain in the ass it's not like video there you can see the diference right away the only way to notice the diference is to watch the movie a lot of times so that you can carve the audio in your brain and then when you hear the new codecs you'll notice the diference right away, I'm sure I'll notice it since I've watched starwars a billion times, but anyway I think they should release all the movies in both DTS HD MA and DOLBY TRUE HD the channels as I said is an issue how about but 5.1 and 7.1 also? hope they don't screw it thanks for reading MTFBWY!

First off: Holy ancient thread revival.

Second: DTS-HD MA is NOT less compressed. Both are lossless audio codecs. DTS-HD MA has a higher bitrate due to the "core" being used in the lossless extension. That higher bitrate does not mean that it's less compressed though.

Interesting that FoX's standard is DTS-MA and I'm pretty sure that Lucasfilm has a deal with Dolby… so what is it gonna be?!

The current official mixes are DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX which means 6.1
Wondering if they will stick to that of expand them to 7.1

I think a 7.1 release is possible.

If it is, it's got a good chance of being DTSHDMA. Most 7.1 audio tracks have been DTSHDMA, totaling around 171 to date compared to 12 DTHD and 11 LPCM.

However, I will take 7.1 audio in any lossless format.

And no matter which format it turns out to be, lossless is lossless. There is no difference. Any amount of dial norm in DTHD can easily be overridden by turning up the AVR's volume control by the same amount.

We shouldn't have to do that in the first place. What a pointless thing to have.

In broadcast i understand but theres no need for it with bluray.

Hypothetical: If Lucas was to offer two versions of the complete saga....

1) The current set with special features and lossless DTS-HD MA or DD TrueHD tracks for $89.99

2) Just the movies only (no special features) with just lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks for $48.99

Which would you buy?

That's exactly what Summit did with 'Red' ($23.99 vs. $12.99) and folks are gobbling up the $12.99 version.

I could be mistaken, but I think you'll also find the lossy version of RED is on a BD25 They stripped the lossless track so they could fit it.

Basically they're merchandising the rental version at a low price

If Summit was really looking to hit the collectors, they would have made THAT one a flipper Any exec worth his salt should know that market will pay more to AVOID a flipper

Why?

Is it the 40 years of audio innovation?

Oops, that would be Dolby.
