I'd like to see them try and bring Carpenter out of retirement on this one, I know he was working on a Lovecraft inspired Black Lagoon in the 90s (before the commercial failure of the underrated Memoirs of an Invisible Man) and with his collaborating with Universal on 2018's Halloween it sounds like he's on better terms with the studio. Even if it would only be his script or some version of it and his designs with him in a producer capacity it would be nice to see Universal try to take some inspiration from what they already had in the pipeline with Carpenter.

Aside from the Gill-Man's supporting role in The Monster Squad, I've been dying for a proper remake of the original for decades.

the thing with marvel, is that even when one of their movies dont do well critically, they keep the ball rolling with the next connected installment, therefore staying relevant. Things dont come to a halt while they reassess their next move.
The property loses credibility once you attach reboot to it for like the third time in 5 years; amateurs

Wasn't that the year of the Tide Pod?

So lets see now...
pre-attempt at reboot: The Wolfman (2010)
1st attempt at reboot: Dracula Untold (2014)
2nd attempt at reboot: The Mummy (2017)
3rd attempt at reboot: The Invisible Man (2020something)

I'll be honest, I actually liked Wolfman, Dracula Untold and Cruise's Mummy. Wolfman was set in its own time period. Dracula was a nice setup for present times. I still think Dracula should've kicked it off. Oh well...

I say reboot it with a remake or sequel of The Monster Squad. Surely all these years later Wolfman still has nards.

The creators of It should be helming this, not bottom tier crap like Happy Death Day.

Who's gonna play Abbott and Costello in future flicks? Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly?

John C. Reilly is already playing Hardy from a movie based on Laurel & Hardy so how much different would it be for him to play Costello?

A fresh start is what they need and don't turn them into action movies

A Creature From The Black Lagoon movie done like Predator would have been cool to see.

Just give me John Carpenter's The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Did you ever read the synopsis of the script Carpenter was going to make? It sounds AWESOME. The-Thing-level potential complete with Kurt as the unhinged boat captain.
It got real close to getting made, but there was a studio shakeup. As a matter of fact Carpenter only did Village of the Damned in exchange for FINALLY getting Creature greenlit for production....then the studio shakeup happened, and the producer he made the deal with was out. New studio guy reneged on the deal.

Its a shame just how many Carpenter films we were cheated out of, Carpenter's Firestarter (where we would've had Richard Dreyfus instead of David Keith) ditched because The Thing bombed, Exorcist III (though I do like Blatty's film), Escape from Mars (as a third Escape film, instead of Ghosts of Mars), Darkchylde, Dead Space and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

So many of his films though years later would acquire cult status underperformed in their time and hampered his career and projects he would've gotten otherwise.

Carpenter walked from Exorcist III despite speaking with Blatty about directing it. In an interview he said something very close to "There was no exorcism! How can you make an Exorcist movie with no exorcism?" From what I understood it was always going to be Escape from Earth, but Debra Hill passed away, and a third Escape film went with her. Have you checked out the summary of the ORIGINAL Escape form LA script? It would have been insane.
I personally would have loved to see Hell Squad, The Prince, and L.A. Gothic.

(I think that interview quote was from this book:
)

Seems crazy that The Thing bombed but I looked at it's opening weekend and holy shit it was up against a lot of big titles in the horror and sci-fi genres

1 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial $13.7M
2 Blade Runner $6.15M
3 Firefox $5.12M
4 Rocky III $5.09M
5 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan $4.5M
6 Annie $4.5M
7 Poltergeist $4.1M 911
8 The Thing $3.1M
9 Megaforce $2.35M

Jesus! Imagine going to the multiplex today and having that kind of line-up of films to choose from.

Elisabeth Moss Circling Universal’s ‘Invisible Man

Universal is in talks with Elisabeth Moss for the actress to star in its retelling of “Invisible Man.”

Sources say the negotiations are in the extremely early stages, but if they were to move forward, Moss would star in the film with “Upgrade” filmmaker Leigh Whannell writing and directing. Sources also indicate that Johnny Depp, who was originally tapped to play the title character, will not be involved.
