Very enjoyable first episode. The first story was good, the second was excellent and that's just my personal tastes. Great casting though underused but hey, you get 22 minutes for each story so I'm sure some of the kinks will get worked out. Overall, pretty pleased and can't wait for more. Shudder is a pretty good App and is not overpriced. 7 day trial right now, per month or per year cost is the sweet spot I can afford. This will bring us up to Halloween time!

I actually liked the second short much better. The first one had a good premise, but really fell apart at the end. I think I know what they were going for, but the writing didn't really do an adequate job of getting me there. It was a bit abrupt. (That and - as an aside - the kid's line delivery got progressively worse as the piece progressed.
![]() The second short had a bit of a 'punchless' ending, but I enjoyed the story as a whole more so I wasn't as bothered. Overall I really liked it, and if I could change one thing it would be the CGI (ALA Crimson Peak) intro. They did such a great job of using practical effects, props, and illustrated comic panels throughout the shorts that the entire intro section seemed jarringly out-of-place. |

Enjoyed the show. Wasn't great but it was decent. Hopefully they'll choose some of King's better short stories as the season goes on. Would love to see THE MONKEY adapted to the small screen.

The thing I liked about the first episode was how family friendly it was. No swearing, nudity etc just good old fashioned spooky storytelling. The first segment was decent, albeit a tad disappointing, it was also the one with all the big name stars. The second in comparison perhaps worked better because of the lack of star power. The dollhouse scenes were really well done, aside from the lacklustre ending it was a 10/10 short.

Also, I meant to mention this last week, in "Bad Wolf Down" did anyone notice that when the three soldiers turned into werewolves, they each looked like a different kind of werewolf? One resembled the Wolfman, one the werewolf from An American Werewolf in London, and one the werewolf from The Howling.

So, low key, does anyone think that the monster in "Gray Matter" was connected to the space weed in "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill", in the original "Creepshow"? I know they're supposed to be standalone episodes, but that's what I kept thinking. The lack of an explanation for why he changes bothers me. It has to be the beer, and that it's infected with something. When I first saw all the moss and mold that has taken up residence in the absence of the boy, that's what I was thinking. "Oh, it's a sequel to Jordy Verrill!" But then they never revealed it, though! I know it's a metaphor for alcoholism and all that, and how it consumes everything. But I still think there's a connection there, even if they're being quiet about it.
I was getting Resident Evil 7 vibes all throughout the episode. And if you remember, the last time we left the space grass in "Jordy Verrill", it was headed for a copious rainstorm and it was implied that it would take over a lot of the county, or at least that area. But maybe it didn't. Maybe it just...stopped. Something interfered with it. And it mutated. I think the beer is infected with it, and that's why he changes as he keeps drinking it. For me, the key is that the box of beer already has mold on it at the beginning, and how they're saying they can't get rid of it. As soon as I saw that at the beginning, knowing this is a "Creepshow" episode, I immediately thought, "That's no mold". We know the guy hasn't been outside of his house in weeks, so he can't be responsible for it. Why would it already have the mold on it? Unless the whole product line is contaminated to begin with. The reason nobody else notices (that we know of), is because he's drinking too much of the damn stuff, and they're not; that's why he's mutating. I know I'm overthinking it, but it seems that there's an obvious connection between the two of them to me! ![]() |
