Relax. It's a line from a scene in the film regarding Willard's mission:

Quote:
General Corman: He's out there operating without any decent restraint, totally beyond the pale of any acceptable human conduct. And he is still in the field commanding troops.
Civilian: Terminate with extreme prejudice.
Colonel Lucas: You understand, Captain, that this mission does not exist, nor will it ever exist...
So, yes, in all likelihood the UHD is forthcoming. And no, I don't have an axe to grind with Bill Hunt, but do agree that some members do exhibit a sometimes irrational bias to his musings/site.

With that out of the way, "What are they going to say about him? What? Are they going to say he was a kind man? He was a wise man? He had plans? He had wisdom? Bullsh*t, man!"

Which is just another way of saying, "You can either surf, or you can fight!"

Agreed, though I do love that French plantation sequence from Redux.

So was the 2.35:1 master that was prepared for the blu-ray only finished at 2k or were they working by proxy?

“We chose the inter-positive of Apocalypse Now Redux and had it transferred at 4K. That gave us the best quality to start with, because the original negative had suffered damage over the years. And Doug and iO Films had it down converted to 2K so they could work in color.”

Had a feeling this would make it to everyone's favorite new format this year. Time to upgrade!

I'll be REALLY disappointed if Redux isn't included.

The compression is my biggest fear especially since I have no choice but to live with HDR10.

I first watched the redux version and did not like the movie. Couple years later i watched the theatrical version and liked it a lot better so i agree with you here.

It needs to be a new master to fix most of the issues

Scanned and restoration work at 4K. Finished for Blu-Ray with new grading at 2K. According to Dolby's PR.

I much prefer the end of Kilgore's speech when it comes to HDR:

"Some day this war's gonna end"

This should really be in the rumor mill section until it's confirmed.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let Walter Murch work his magic on a Dolby Atmos remix!!!!!!!!

This film has always been used to test the waters with advancements in audio mixing and technology starting with one of the first, if not the first split surround 5.1 mixes during its 70mm roadshow run. Murch has been involved in each and every tweak to this day.

"Pre-order... the UHD?"
"Pre-order... with extreme prejudice."

Whenever I'm required to enter my birth date on some random site I always enter August 15, 1979.

Apocalypse Now is one of my favorites in much the same way as Blade Runner. Heavy atmosphere combined with film-making so excellent the style becomes the substance. As Blade Runner has its visuals and Vangelis' score, where you could take almost any random frame and end up with something iconic, so Apocalypse Now has its script and performances, where almost every line, every delivery is just music. I don't know how many times I've listened to the movie by way of the double-album soundtrack, and I never get tired of it. Underrated score too by the way.

I'm not expecting much to be honest, but I bought the UK StudioCanal box despite already owning the US Lionsgate box, on the off-chance the encoding was better (it wasn't), so that won't stop me. And who knows, Blade Runner turned out to harbor a surprisingly sharp and detailed source underneath the HD mastering.

Murch is ambivalent about Atmos and hasn't used it yet, from what we know. He hasn't come out for or against it, but he has said that it has the potential for abuse/misuse for the purposes of creating immersion with all the channels it offers.
