For some reason I love these "list a bunch of movies" topics...

Underrated movies? I'll take that to mean lesser known, rather than movies that I like that critics or the majority didn't.

How about:

- 25th Hour (definitely agree with the OP on this one... has a great speech at the end by Brian Cox)
- Adaptation
- Amelie
- Barton Fink
- The Big Empty
- Boondock Saints (would love this one!)
- Bubba Ho-Tep
- The Chumscrubber
- City of Lost Children
- Code 46
- Confidence
- Criterion Collection!
- Devil's Advocate
- Devil's Backbone
- Dirty Harry movies
- Donnie Darko (theatrical cut)
- Dr Strangelove
- Equilibrium
- Event Horizon (<3 <3 <3 this movie, Paramount though)
- Everything is Illuminated
- Fargo
- The Good Girl
- Hudson Hawk
- Hudsucker Proxy
- Il Postino
- In America
- Intacto
- Jacob's Ladder
- Kikujiro
- L.A. Confidential
- La Moustache
- Labyrinth!
- Lady Vengeance (come on Tartan! Fade to black/white version too!)
- Last Man Standing
- Leon: The Professional (pretty well known, but it's in my top 5 all time favs)
- Last of the Mohicans
- Miller's Crossing
- Minority Report (Paramount)
- MirrorMask (really underrated henson/sony movie -- could look rather beautiful, but I have a feeling the master is soft)
- Mullholland Dr
- Naked Lunch
- Night Watch (Day watch also, now that I think about it)
- Northfork
- O brother where art thou!
- Pleasantville (if only for the colors!)
- Primer (it was probably done with SD cams though, so maybe not)
- The Salton Sea (nobody seems to know about this one... another of my favs)
- Save the Green Planet
- Science of Sleep
- Session 9 (Universal)
- Shopgirl
- SLC Punk
- Solaris (I'd kill for this one)
- Tombstone (not mentioned enough on this forum)
- Vanilla Sky
- A Very Long Engagement
- Waking Life (same director and style as scanner darkly)

for starters...

I have a buddy who LOVES The Boondock Saints. Not on my short list, but I think it would sell pretty well. For me, one of the most underrated movies is already on Blu-ray....Memento. I also love Bottle Rocket and would like to see it on Blu. It was one of my first DVD purchases.

OK, this thread hasn't yet gone under, so I'll add a few that I don't think are on my previous lists in this forum, but they certainly qualify:

La Fille aux yeux d'or, dir. Jean-Gabriel Albicocco

Trotta, dir. Johannes Schaaf

Effi Briest, dir. Rainer Werner Fassbinder

Actually, the full title for this one is: Fontane - Effi Briest oder: Viele, die eine Ahnung haben von ihren Möglichkeiten und Bedürfnissen und dennoch das herrschende System in ihrem Kopf akzeptieren durch ihre Taten und es somit festigen und durchaus bestätigen

Many of the films people have mentioned aren't actually underrated...just to mention.

Vanilla Sky is extremely boring.
