Almost no one pays attention to who has the rights, if it shows up everyone would screech that Disney made it and 100% of the outrage would still go towards them. No one would blame Kino or whoever bought the rights/released it. The rights sale wouldn't help them at all IMO.

I think Joe Sixpack will pay the $10 a month or whatever the price will be and ignore HV releases. Why would someone pay $25-$30 for a 4K version of Moana when it's part of the $10 a month they pay for D+. I think our physical media will become even more scarce and more of a niche product than it already has become.

Which is why I think Disney is doing this. Their vault program worked before on home media because there was no other way to obtain the movie. You either had to buy it right away or wait X years for them to unvault it. With technology advancements, that model no longer works.
Disney is going to save a ton of money by no longer having to press new disks, new artwork etc for every time they unvault something. Which is also why digital is so appealing for studios. You remove a lot of overhead by no longer having to physically provide the movie. Quote:

It will be interesting to see what people ACTUALLY watch once they have access to such a large library. My children have zero interest in watching any vintage Disney films. I only got my 9-year-old to watch Pinocchio because we went on the ride at Disneyland. I think there's a good chance this channel will be a bust. For me, I'm bored to death with Marvel and Star Wars, so I don't believe there's enough content to hold my interest. |

Will they be streaming SD content? I bet a lot of the older, more obscure stuff has no HD master. They may put up the "entire" library eventually, like over 20-30 years as they remaster everything.

I certainly hope it's the end of their stupid arbitrary vault.

I hope every classic cartoon short(Mickey, Donald, Goofy cartoons in particular) is on this service in glorious HD, that would do it for me.

I expect we will eventually see all of Disney’s (and Fox’s) family friendly content on Disney+. The marginal cost of adding a movie to the service is pretty much zero and the more stuff they have the more value subscribers perceive.
Disney also owns 30% of Hulu, once their Fox acquisition closes they will own 60%. They are also in talks to buy AT&T’s 10% share. Disney has said that they will put their more adult oriented content on Hulu. I would expect that across Disney+ and Hulu (especially if they end acquiring Comcast’s share), we will see pretty much all Disney and Fox content available for streaming (at least if they have HD masters). The exceptions will be anything controversial (read: racist) like Song of the South. I think with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, Disney is going to navigate the transition to streaming quite well. They have a history of dealing with this sort of transition in the past when TV came along and then home video. There’s something in this company’s DNA that allows management to embrace new technologies and think long term even though it may not make the most sense financially in the short term. It has. I saw it on TCM during their Treasures from the Disney Vault lineup last year, and it looked great, akin to the two Hayley Mills films currently on Blu - Pollyanna and The Parent Trap. That remastering is available on both Amazon and Vudu, though I'm unsure of iTunes.
