So there is a brightness glitch. Half way into the movie when they have the Indian, and he speaks to them the brightness goes way up when the subs come on the screen. And when the subtitles go away it goes back down to normal brightness. I'm on a oled b6 calibrated tv.

![]() ![]() Nels Coxman, a Colorado snowplow driver played by Liam Neeson, takes the law into his own calculatingly brutal hands when his son is murdered by a drug cartel. When he inadvertently sets off a rivalry between two criminal factions, the evildoers on both sides feel the icy hand of death upon them. When previews for the 2019 revenge thriller, Cold Pursuit, showed at local theaters this year, my eyes rolled at the thought of yet another Neeson star vehicle that clones his iconic role in the 2008 blockbuster, Taken, although I cannot fault the actor for operating within a consistently entertaining and lucrative niche. Much to my surprise, this movie openly embraces the inherent straight-faced absurdity of Neeson's work over the past decade, and it wears the air of self-aware parody on its sleeve. This is a remake of a 2014 Norwegian film, Kraftidioten (In Order of Disappearance), but director Hans Petter Moland, who also helmed the original, effectively utilizes his lead actor's cinematic past and the snowy Colorado landscapes to make this a work all its own. The strength of Cold Pursuit lies in its ability to showcase every involved player in a sympathetic light by way of exposing their human flaws and follies. Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express) is a tour-de-force here as a ruthless drug lord whose idiosyncrasies provide some of the funniest moments. Emmy Rossum (The Phantom of the Opera) shines as a small town police detective who relentlessly tries to light a fire under her partner's tail. Canadian actor Tom Jackson is outstanding as a Native American underworld figure. Finally, Laura Dern (Blue Velvet), as Coxman's wife, brings a dose of somberness to the proceedings so that we are always aware of the stakes of the garish violence. I love it when a film exceeds my expectations. I watched the standard Blu-ray on my “future proof” combo set, and I found it to be a stellar-looking presentation. It seems that I have a great surprise waiting for me when I get to check out my 4K disc in the future. Last edited by The Great Owl; 05-19-2019 at 03:11 AM. |

I'll buy any Liam Neeson action or drama film without reading a single thing on it, listening to anyone's opinion. And to date I've not been disappointed. I'm looking forward to getting my copy of this.

I watched this tonight. Entertaining. Not great, but not bad. The 4K DV version does look a lot better than the BD version. Better detail, and deeper color. Neither one exactly eye popping, but I will definitely say the UHD is the one to watch.

Oh gee there must be something seriously wrong with me. I loved it. Not a typical Neeson action flick, but as an offbeat crime comedy drama, like a Martin McDonagh film (In Bruges or Seven Psychopaths}. I just loved it.
I find this more an more this modern woke era that I avoid movies de to bad press, eventually see them, and them love them, and wonder what is either wrong with me or the majority of humanity... Seriously, I'm struggling with some sort of cognitive dissonance with modern society. We have it so good, and I'm continually just so grateful where we are, and think about what it was like even 20 years ago, let alone 25 years, but people have lost objectivity and just waste so so much of their lives with hate and fear and indignation. |

Otherwise an ok movie to kill some time. PQ was good but those elevated black levels are always big yikes for me. |

This was released by Elevation Pictures in Canada on 4K (their 1st 4K disc in over a year). No Atmos.
**EDIT: HDR is present on the disc, but to me there seemed to be more color on the Blu-ray disc. Last edited by Rhylliam; 06-12-2019 at 08:29 PM. Reason: False info. |

Not quite sure. You'd think they would get the content from Lionsgate (as Alliance had done in the past for most of their releases). With Elevation's releases of Deepwater Horizon & Hacksaw Ridge (Elevation's only other 4K releases), the contents were identical to the US discs.

Watched this last night and this movie greatly surpassed my low expectations. The dark humor in this movie had me rolling at parts! Disk looked pretty good as well. Nothing mind blowing, but a overall solid presentation. DV was a nice touch.
