You forget the tacked on Greek soldier intro and terrible comic page ending.

Since this is the same steelbook that was released by Zavvi two years ago it's more than likely this is the director's cut. I highly recommend people get the German mediabook release the picture quality is excellent and you'll finally have the theatrical cut (region free) on bluray.

Seriously, GODHOOD's absolutely right: go for the region-free German theatrical release. It's a wee bit pricey, but you'll never look back.

Walter Hill can basically do no wrong in my book; the director's cut of The Warriors is the exception that proves the rule.

*Breathes a massive sigh of relief after dropping $42 on the German mediabook.*

In all seriousness I might end up springing for this and just swapping the discs. Despite the fact that the mediabook also features the original poster art, the back is entirely in German and that steelbook is badass-defined and conjugated.

Is this going to be the usual Paramount re-release in different packaging?

There are some differences in framing, too. I base this on nothing, but I think the German framing is correct.

So forgive my ignorance on this but is it true that there is no way to get the theatrical cut on BD?

I don't mind the comic stuff in the DC but I'd prefer the theatrical version and all I can find is an old R1 DVD.

There's a release from Germany that has the theatrical cut on Blu-ray. I have it and it's Region A compatible.

I like the directors cut. The comic panel interludes don't bother me and I think they fit. I did see the theatrical cut first, but didn't mind at all the slight difference in the directors cut, and actually prefer it.

f.y.e. (for your entertainment)

Despite being a child of the '80s, I've only ever seen the Director's Cut. The comic-book transitions do seem a bit out of place, but they don't hurt the movie for me. I still really like it. I would like to see the original version, though. If I ever come across the non-DC DVD for cheap, I'll pick it up.

That is a good-looking steel. I'd consider it if: 1.) It was UHD. Since UHD is a thing, paying extra for special packaging that isn't future-proofed seems like a waste. 2.) The Theatrical Version was included. Both cuts would make the steel worth it, but this unfortunately seems like a Lucas-type situation where the director wants only the revised version available.

A deluxe version with both the theatrical and directors cut would be ideal. Also one that upgrades to lossless audio, with the original mono mix available. Not sure why something like this hasn't happened. The steelbook might be pretty, but it being just a re-issue of the old disc isn't that appealing.

I've got the HD-DVD, but haven't purchased any blu yet, hoping for a more deluxe edition eventually.

I have the German digibook. About the only thing I hate is the G1 size of the digibook. I might just get this steelbook and throw the German disc in it.
