I'm definitely up for this. I've never seen Rob Lowe's version, but I was told it brought some political baggage to the table. The original film left so much out of the book not to mention it just screamed TV MOVIE that it just didn't satisfy. Salem's lot is easily my favorite King book. I can't wait to be disappointed again.

Yeah, the choice is pretty boring.

I own the 1979 TV version on DVD but still haven't seen it. I guess it's high time to dust it off.

I know I'm in the minority in that I rather enjoyed ANNABELLE COMES HOME when I caught it on HBO earlier in the year. It was an entertaining spookshow and fun ride that benefitted from not taking itself too seriously...still, it wasn't especially scary, so the jury's still out on whether director Dauberman can bring the fear. Stephen King's novel did indeed bring the fear - the fact that a 41-year-old TV-movie adaptation being as effectively creepy and eerie even now is a testament to that - so here's hoping Dauberman can bring it with the excellent source material he's got to work with.

I'll be curious to hear about casting in the future, Barlow in particular (the Nosferatu-inspired, feral vampire in Hooper's version was pretty much the antithesis of King's creation, but effective nonetheless). Was thinking Michael Fassbender would be an excellent choice for the loquacious and urbane - but ultimately savage - Barlow of King's novel.

I might be in the minority, but I watched the miniseries for the first time recently and wasn’t a fan. Liked the book. Will be curious to see how this turns out.

Also a scene from the miniseries was filmed at my grandparents house.
[Show spoiler]The scene where the husband forces Fred Willard out of the house.
. My mom would always refer to Fred Willard as red shorts, because he was always running around in the red shirts. My mom’s dog was happy because the crew would give her steaks.

I don’t care about the supposed pedigree of the writer/director/producer—I’m consistently disappointed.
I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.

Just read the book a few months ago and absolutely loved it. It's a shame that this has very little chance of being any good.

It's one of King's best IMO, in my top 5 of his.

I'm personally looking forward to new Stephen King adaptations; I don't 'get' the hate.

The other adaptations of Salem's Lot aren't going away. The more the merrier.

Lewis Pullman Joins Salem's Lot

Quote:
New Line and Gary Dauberman’s adaptation of Stephen King classic Salem’s Lot is only weeks away from starting production. And it just got its lead.

Lewis Pullman, a rising actor who is also the son of Independence Day star Bill Pullman, nabbed the lead role of an author who returns to his home town only to find it falling under the spell of a vampire.

Pullman has been appearing in movies and shows for a little while — he stole scenes in 2018's Bad Times at the El Royale – but this studio horror adaptation will mark his biggest platform yet and could take his career to the next stage. π

I’m hopeful for this - King adaptions are a mixed bag. Hoping it’s more in the vein of the success of IT Chapter 1 and 2 and NOT as bad as the new Pet Semetary.

Anyway, I like Pullman in what I’ve seen of him so far and curious to see the rest of the cast.

I'm looking forward to this. I like the Hooper film, and the Rob Lowe version wasn't so bad. I hope it's an epic.
