The blu-ray looks pretty good, I hope the UHD beat it.

"The truth is... I am Iron Man"

Day one.

Hopefully we'll have the remainder of the Marvel movies in 4k and I can take a vacation just to binge them all

I never bought the IM movies, so the 4ks are easy buys. I'm trying to fight the urge to double dip on the other MCUs I own, though. the first Guardians might break me, though

Oh, they'll screw it up. It's just a matter of how badly they'll screw it up and to what extent.

How were they not Disney releases? Marvel Studios released and Disney distributed.

Concorde produced and distributed those discs (since they hold the rights in Germany). Disney had nothing to do with them.

These will be separate transfers on newly pressed discs.

I'm talking about the 2017 Disney release. Not the German discs.

Are you talking about the standard BD repackage? Isn’t that just the old disc?

Didn't this already get a very poor UHD release elsewhere in the world?

edit: looks like these might be new transfers then. I'm interested in getting the first one if so.

That's what I'm curious about. Did they just reuse the Paramount transfers?

Wait... so you think that... Disney will reuse... old 1080p transfers... already compressed and conformed to 1080p Blu-ray? For 4K Blu-rays?

I'm actually super confused about what you're suggesting

You might as well just delete your post, bruv.

There is nothing wrong with the Paramount / Sony 1080p BDs of IM1. They still look and sound excellent. The UHD simply have to trounce the already excellent looking and sounding BD but with Disney's inconsistency, I am not holding my breath.

Right. One thing we’ve learned with UHD is that there are releases which are NOT major updates to an existing quality Blu-ray. It happens. That’s why I don’t blindly rebuy every catalog title.

I enjoy these iron man films and if it’s a tangible upgrade then I’ll buy them ASAP. If not, I won’t buy them at all. Easy.

You guys are legitimately concerned that this 4K Blu-ray isn’t going to have noticeably superior PQ to a 10+-year-old 1080p SDR transfer? Really?

I think the Concorde disc might be tainting people's expectations. I'm sure Disney will handle it properly.

If done properly, this will be a nice improvement. However, I hope they don't try to smooth it over to look like it was digitally filmed (and this is a double worry if it's in Paramount's hands).

Why? Paramount's done some good 4K UHD releases.
