Received mine today. Did some quick comparisons with the BD. This one is a little more interesting than Iron Man, imo.
First, I'm not an expert, but it appears there is light use of DNR. The grain on BD is more visible at all times, however, the UHD still has grain, just less of it, sometimes a lot less, but never absolutely gone. I'll admit that in comparison to the BD, the UHD can look more digital, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, and sometimes not at all. The perceived resolution looks sharper than BD, but smoother because of the DNR. Also, noticed a little black crush. I think HDR use is excellent. Virtually every scene makes use and improves upon BD. The BD looks blown out and flat in comparison. The improvement from HDR far outweights the DNR effect imo. There are 'wow' moments in comparison to the BD and in general. Also, the color is bolder, specifically blues and dark greens. Like IM1, the Atmos soundtrack is slight improvement. Again 4db quieter. For me it easily retires the BD, but there will be moments where I'll think something looks a little off. Someone else may enjoy the look and think its perfect. |

Unfortunately the cover designers have to adhere to the terribly uninspired design direction that Disney has ordered for it’s film re-issues. A designer with creative control could make some wonderful box art, but alas we get these D-tier covers that any poor soul could make in adobe in 5 minutes. At least the Steelbooks look acceptable enough, unfortunately they are of limited quantity.

There is a tendency here to make kneejerk reactions to any use of DNR and I understand that since it has made many films in the past look bad through their BD or even UHD releases. But I have yet to see the negative results with the Marvel Studio releases aside from people's personal preference of just not wanting to see a single percentage of its application. |

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. What I'm saying is that the application of DNR on the Marvel UHDs thus far hasn't resulted in any video quality deficiencies compared to their BD counterparts.
