Qtec, no buy. No Qtec, buy.

I am not hopeful given that Youtube trailer. Also why does it so often seem to be IPs with Japanese stuff, or at least animation? Did they only fully conform the IP and not the negative?

It puzzles me when they print and scan brand new IPs instead of, you know, just scanning the OCN.

Well, film preservation in Japan isn’t the best, and it’s possible that the OCN might not exist anymore. I doubt it, but it’s always a possibility.

GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE. Also, very excited to see Taika's love action version whenever that releases.

Yeah, but in Bandai's case they actually access the OCN and print new IPs.

That especially. Is the potential damage and wear from scanning that much higher than running another print of it?

And even if it is, this is coming from the people who have so much respect for the source film they habitually lose parts of their productions, finished film stuff on composite video up until the 2000s, and go "Yes, this looks good" when seeing the result of the Space Adventure Cobra 4K master?

I'd say that scanning a modern-ish negative in good condition on a pin-registered or edge-guided datacine would have less potential for damage and mayhem than contact-printing a new IP from it. But yeah, given their ongoing fascination with DNR then who knows what's going on in their heads?

First GiTS 4K UHD and now this

My GAWD I really enjoy the whole machine merging with humanity stories!

Get your Sony 4K UHD panels set to Animation Picture Mode and OH my GAWD! The standard Akira disc still blows me away This is one of if not thee hand drawn best/most ambitious.

Another MUST OWN 4K. Thank the Bandai GAWDS.

The English Dub from 2001 was created in 48 kHz/16bit. The Funimation Blu-ray just upsampled it to 96 kHz/16bit. I heard the audio remaster team that worked on the 192 KHz 5.1 remix used the 2001 track as reference, but it also improved on it as well in terms of dynamic range, surround channel use, LFE, and clarity.

The Pioneer 5.1 English dub has the best dynamic range whereas the vaunted Hypersonic Japanese 5.1 mix is compressed and clipped, resulting in inferior dynamics and just being loud.

I stick with Japanese 2.0 when watching with the original language.

Hopeful for a good transfer to one of my favorite anime movies.

Not interested in the new anime, considering what modern anime looks like, especially the cheap CG stuff Otomo now produces.

I know there wasn’t that much footage shown, but how does it look so far?

I can't wait for the eventual US release, I don't care if it costs me $150 (which its looking like it will), I NEED this ASAP

Edit:

Seeing as Amazon.jp won't ship to Australia, what's my next best bet for eventually ordering this one?

Seeing that anime isn't available in the US in 4k....time to pawn grandma's wheelchair for GITS and Akira. I'll bet Ninja Scroll is next.

GITS 4K is one of my best discs despite the DNR so 100 percent up for this.

No, not always. But, in this case, it's just a poster. The rest is the same.
So, it's not the end of the world. But DNR, on the other hand...

I bought the Dynit steelbook, just in case.
