Default The Santa Clause - 4K Movies Anywhere/Vudu

The Santa Clause (1994) was released today in a remastered Native 4K version. This is significant for a few reasons:

This is the first live-action Disney catalog title to have a native 4K remaster/transfer released at this time (all others are animated or 2K DI Upscales.)

This is also the first time that Disney has released a 4K title exclusively on Digital and not on disc.

At this time the new 4K version is not being released on disc, though a new Blu-ray steelbook set of all three Santa Clause films is being released at Best Buy.

I was able to sample this 4K version before leaving for work this morning. It looks very healthy. The picture is extremely stable. It features plenty of grain (sometimes the grain does look a bit chunky) and the release does not appear to have had it's detail wiped away. HDR /DV use seems a tad restrained. The overall image seems a tad darker than the previous blu-ray, but the image is quite nice.

The Audio appears to be the same 5.1 track used on the previous releases.

As for the specs on the two versions - both are presented in Native 4K at 1.85:1. The VUDU UHD version features Dolby Vision and a Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 track. (No Atmos like all previous Disney titles) while the The Movies Anywhere Version currently features HDR-10 and a Dolby Digital 5.1 track.
