Default Looking for help on Bose advice...

Ok, so for Christmas I got the Bose 3-2-1 GS II system. So far, it's really great. However, I was mainly asking for a surround sound system to get the most of my PS3 gaming/Blu-Ray experience. I am worried that with only the choice of optical cable, I won't get that experience. The sound quality is amazing, but I was looking to try out high def audio - and as far as I know, the optical cable doesn't carry the HD audio signal - only HDMI does (please correct me if I'm wrong). So, what I'm asking is, would it be worth it return my 3-2-1 setup and maybe get the Acoustimass 10 home theater system, as it is the only one in the same price range (about $999).

Is the audio I would hear from a Bose system with lossless audio (the acoustimass 10) significantly better than what I currently hear with my 3-2-1?

Another problem - I need a receiver, and as far as I know the acoustimass doesn't come with one, while my 3-2-1 does. Ahhh! I'm stuck in a rut on what to do. Any advice would be helpful!

Get the Acoustimass with an Onkyo 605 + for optimal sound, if you have to have Bose.

I don't know if I have to, but I definately like what I've heard so far. I'm open to other suggestions.

Me personally I always thought that Bose was overrated and overpriced. You are better off getting a seperate reciever and speakers. Depending on your budget you can get Definitive Technology speaker packages for fairly cheap($800-$1000) that come with a sub and all five main speakers. For a reciever you can go with Yamaha, Onkyo and Denon all of whom have recievers with HMDI input/output for PCM, and TrueHD. As of right now, the PS3 is unable to do bitstream or DTS-MA, which will hopefully soon change. These are just some suggestions. I recommend you research as much as possible before spending any of your hard earned money. If you have a Best Buy with a Magnolia Theater, you can audition their speakers and recievers. Take a BD with you to help you make a better choice. You should also go to a local AV shop or Fry's if you have them too. At the end of the day our suggestions are just that, our suggestions. It's up to you, your ears and your wallet to decide for yourself. Hope this helps.

My advise is not to buy BOSE.

Polks are good, I had a set of them about 5 years ago. I am running Martin Logan Electrostat's right now.

IMO best bang for the buck is AV123.com's X series. I auditioned there bookshelf speaker summer last year and they are phenomenal for the price.

did anybody not read this guys link? your paying for the bose name not the sound, the spec's on the speakers they have dont compair to other brand's out their. my freind has a bose system and he swear's its the best thing out thier, he came to my house one day to see the setup in my sig and you know what he said?..........i bet they dont sound better than bose, bose does research on their systems that nobody else does, and sound's better than any other system............. i tried telling him their's so many things that go into making a good sound system that bose just doesint do or have. i told him their's other companie's out there that have systems that sound better than bose, but he just rolled his eye's at me i was explaining to him the resone why and the differint spec's of other speakers, but he didnt understand, he didnt even know what a receiver was for.
im not making fun of freind but maby thats why he think's bose is the best cause doesint know else is out there, oh well ill keep trying.

Please dont put "optimal sound" and "Bose" in the same sentence.

There are so many reasons to buy a particular home theater. In college I had to buy a HTiB. I got an Onkyo that for its price was incredible. Now I'm moving on to upgraded units that are more tailored to my needs. I've created some threads and gotten a ton of good advice. I've gotten some I think is bad advice.

My parents got a Bose 321 for the Living room because my mom refused to have a surround sound setup. She hates bass and cranks treble (it's like listening to something in a tin can...ugh). The 321 was the perfect system, it was small and unobtrusive, but atleast got better sound in the room.

There are great micro-systems out there, and I think Bose makes a really good system, its just over priced. My $500 Onkyo HTiB sounded better than the Lifestyle 30 set in my dads basement. He even admitted it, but the were also setup differently. Just remember, there are more things at play for some than how it sounds. Personally, I don't mind huge speakers (and neither does my wife) and I want a good range of sound. Others want the speakers to be barely noticeable and the surround sound is a bonus. It's a trade-off, you have to give something up to gain something else.
