I just ordered as well as The Thanksgiving Promise (I haven't seen it, but I wanted to support the release.) And I also ordered an extra copy of Pollyanna for a friend, since I am going to be meeting Hayley Mills at the end of the month and he wanted me to get a signed Blu-ray for him.

I sure do hope that if this sells well, that Disney Movie Club will put out more Walt-era TV titles on Blu-ray! (Since I'm pretty sure we don't have to worry about if DMC isn't going to be around after Disney + launches, since that day is just five weeks away now.)

Dr Syn isn't in bold text, but I guess we'll know one way or the other on Nov 12.
You know, I came into this thread saying I noticed something dubious about it, that it was listing Song of the South...I know that film was available in Europe and other territories back in the 90's, but still I thought that was odd, came back here to tell you good folk, and Flanger-Hanger had already solved the problem. The guy was just randomly posting titles and bolding the confirmed titles so far on the Netherlands beta. My fault.

McGoohan was an absolute legend. Have a gander at this publicity photo - they've partially painted the 'scarecrow' disguise on his face and he's actually managing one (reasonably smiley) expression with the unpainted half and a rather more sinister countenance with the other!

Since several people are being friendly enough to offer grabbing a copy for someone, I might as well do the same. I can only do 1 extra copy, since I am already grabbing one for a friend, but if anyone else wants a copy at list price + shipping to your location, just send me a PM.

EDIT: Title Taken

If anyone is curious or on the fence about this, I consider it an essential title in the superhero genre. If you dig Batman, Zorro, etc., you will dig this.

After THE BLACK HOLE debacle, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this release is drama-free.

Yeah, I really want to pick this up with The Balck Hole, but I'm waiting for reports from folks with a much more critical eye than mine.

I assume 1.33 is how this was filmed and how it was originally broadcast on TV....

Why are some people hoping for 1.66? That would be cropping the original image correct?

The series was actually filmed with the intent of creating a feature film, and it was released as such overseas. Standard British projected film aspect ratio at the time was 1.66:1. The filmmakers most probably took into account that the content should look good in both ARs, but there's good reason for having the British AR presented on the disc.

It was only a matter of time until the AR handwringing commenced.

The three TV episodes were shot in widescreen but aired in full-screen originally and in subsequent reruns.

Since DMC doesn't typically include extras, the DVD supplements will likely be missing from the BD. These included: the UK theatrical release, the original TV episode previews, the Wonderful World of Color title sequence, Walt's intros and closing comments, a Leonard Maltin introduction, the documentary "Dr. Syn: History of The Legend" (containing the last interview with Patrick McGoohan before his death) and widescreen versions of Walt's introductions.

Wow, so you are saying the 1.66 theatrical cut has more picture than the 1.33 broadcast cut? That is to say the broadcast version is a cropped image of the theatrical release?

Hrmmmm well that is a pickle. I tend to prefer original theatrical/broadcast ratio, in which case I would argue that the three part episode cut should be shown in 1.33 and the theatrical cut should be shown in 1.66....but if the 1.33 image is just a crop of the 1.66 image, that does make it harder.....

No. It was shot in 1:33 and matted to 1:66 for theatrical. The tv version willhave slightly more info at top and bottom.
