The last one flopped hard so it's crazy that they're so confident that DF will perform well.

Genisys actually didn't flop hard, it made 440 million on a 155 million budget.

People just like using the term flop, it is becoming meaningless.

A 155 million budget, and an estimated $50–100 million spent on marketing. It may not have been an utter flop, but if anyone thinks it was lucrative theatrically they are being delusional.

Yikes....right? Just like Aliens, it’s as good as its predecessor and arguably better in some ways.

Exactly. It underperformed overall, not a complete flop.

Can already see the promo videos with Cameron going "No they REALLY got it this time! THIS is the real Terminator 3!"

It didn't bomb, but it did flop.

Bloomberg estimated it needed to make $450M theatrically to break even. And that was merely to break even, not to actually make profit.

So theatrically it either barely broke even, or came close but failed.

That's a flop.

A movie *generally* needs to make 3x its budget to break even for the studio, because of marketing costs, and theaters keeping a cut. So, unless my math sucks (always a distinct possibility ), Genisys was a Genuflop.

I don't see a sequel coming anytime soon tbh. At least if the rumours of how Dark Fate turns out as i don't think it's lighting the boxoffice on fire calling for a sequel.

Exactly. Some of the other movies, episodes & novels have been entertaining, but T1 & T2 are epic. One is a low budget indie thriller, the other a mega-budget thrill ride, both are among the very best of their decades. And they've never come even close to matching either one. As a Terminator fan, I really want the new one to be good, but it's looking more like Salvation part 3 than Terminator part 3. Ain't nobody asking for that.

And I've heard zero buzz; starting to think this might be a Dark Phoenix level flop.

T2-3D: Battle Across Time is my T3. Terminator Salvation could be my T4 if they swapped Christian Bale for Furlong, and abandoned the whole hybrid shit and actually finished off Skynet then and there, but set it further in the future than T4 actually was so you've got pink/purple lasers and chrome enemies!

When James Cameron is done making his handful of big budget smurf films?

Announcement for Cameron as writer for Terminator 7 is probably just an attempt to boost sales on this installment, I remember well his very positive statements for Genisys and his positive talk about this new installment does nothing for me at all. Viewed one of the first trailers and thought to myself, ahh, I will give it ago...looks like maybe an Okay popcorn flick. Then I saw the last one they released and I'm like, mmm Redbox

Probably not until next week since it comes out the evening of Oct 31...

The trailers don’t get give me much hope though... I’d honestly be shocked if this gets good reviews

I agree, although Salvation is a guilty pleasure and I own it along with 1&2... I have them in order of Salvation, Terminator, Judgement Day and that's the completion as far as I'm concerned...I will rent it but this will likely be near as disappointing as Hellboy2019
