(Just checked and there are some really solid people involved in this documentary. I'm suspecting maybe this was an accident of some kind)
if it was a accident then they would add update to the page saying there was a mix up and we should not have got BD-Rs. This last minute change of distributor from China or US AFTER the orders from backers have been completed speaks a lot for what they are trying to get away with imo.

We'll see if they do end up making good on the replacements for those who request. It's certainly starting to become more than "5 percent" of the shipped orders. Mine is still making its way from China so who knows when it'll arrive but I know the poster is already messed up since they've shipped them all folded instead of rolled like their description said they would be. I don't hold much hope for the BD-r to work either since many people seem to have issues playing it so I'll likely be joining the "5 percenters".

Say what you will about the Diabolique Hammer documentary, at least the discs were replicated properly and the posters shipped in tubes. They certainly did this to themselves by outsourcing the manufacturing and shipping the way they did and without checking the quality control ahead of time. Their Sci-Fi Kickstarter next year will be DOA if they don't make things right. I'm hoping that they want to continue to do business and therefore will correct all the packages.

Just received mine in the post from china and mines sealed in a blue bd case with the poster and a cardboard insert. Nice to see some extra's listed on the back.

Just realised its "In Search Of The Last Action Hereos" that has come had a mind block and thought it was In Search of Darkness!!! That must be on its way somewhere.

How can we get info on our orders for In Search of Darkness?? I haven't received anything since applying my name for credits request over a month ago... I'd love to know when I can expect it in the mail. I ordered the Elvira edition.

Same here. I never received the code and sent two polite emails with no response. I'm getting frustrated.

Going by the way they worded their reply.. everyone received the same item (without them stating as such), they're saying that only ~5% of those received a defective product.

Similar to their lines of "We'll replace defective goods!" - this is very similar to an ebay bootleg experience I had. Obvious bootleg (BD-R, printed label, printer cover art in a slim Blu-Ray case). The seller refused to refund because "Try it first, it will play just fine" which seems to be the line they're using here.

As if $50 wasn't already too much for a documentary.. I believe it also arrived quite late? But it's a BD-R on top of that? This whole thing is a mess.

I’m guessing they only shipped 5% of all orders, hence the 5% defects.

Mine has been shipped but who knows where it is. That track chinapost is basically useless. But from the sounds of things, I won't be that happy when it does come in...

Glad I only backed the basic blu-ray version through Indigogo now and not the more expensive editions. I've had the free digital copy they sent out to backers since October, but I finally got the blu-ray in the post (UK) need to check the quality later.

Shame about the problems really because the documentary itself is excellent.

Is there a way to watch it outside of the kickstart blu ray?

I hadn't heard of this till now and it sounds interesting but I have no interest in owning a physical copy. Wife and I just want to watch it once.

Just checked mine, yep cheap quality. Hopefully they can sort out better quality replacements for everyone. Feel bad for the people that paid more for the special editions.

Did you get the digital download email?

It says mid-January

Quote:
Hi

We are delighted to inform you that your streaming and download link for Elvira Collector’s Edition of In Search of Darkness is now ready! Follow the instructions (see below) to access your copy and watch it today!

We’ve also got some important information to share about your Blu-Ray/DVD and other physical items (poster, pin, postcard) for Elvira Collector’s Edition of In Search of Darkness:

The incredibly high demand we’ve experienced, coupled with a few important technical details (personalized credits & subtitles) taking longer than expected, has led to a delay in our manufacturing schedule. We are working hard to get all the physical items out to our customers, but these new circumstances does mean your copy will take a little longer to arrive.

Your new expected delivery window is: 13th of January - 28th of January

We understand any delay is frustrating, but because we’re manufacturing to order and this is a personalized product that will never be produced again, it is very important that we get it right. These are collector’s items that we believe will be worth the wait and increase in value over the coming years.

As always, your patience and support are much appreciated. While you are waiting for your physical copy, you can stream or download the documentary using your unique login details below. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it!

Yeah, that's the only reason I bought it was because Elvira was posting about it on her social media pages.

Got my copy of In Search of the Last Action Heroes today and that is the same cheap quality case and BD-R disc.

Damn shame they went so cheap on the physical versions, as it lets down 2 really great documentaries.

Got my copy of In Search of Darkness today. The posters were folded over twice, creasing along the folds wasn't as bad as I figured it would be and the edges actually survived without any damage. I put them in a couple BCW top loader sleeves and they mostly smoothed out, only a crease at the center where the folds met has any permanent damage. It's also only noticeable on one the posters since the other one is so busy it's not easily seen, fortunately that happens to be the good poster with all the monsters at the forefront. Still disappointing any damage happened at to them since they're actually on decent quality card stock.

My case and post card survived without damage. I was prepared for a cracked case; I have plenty of spares so it wouldn't have mattered much to me.

I'll try testing the disc within the next few days; I've read that others have had issues playing it. I've received plenty of Kickstarter films on BD-r so it doesn't necessarily annoy me at the moment but if it fails to fully play like others have experienced then that is beyond what I can forgive.

Quite true, my tracking never updated. The last update was from December 9th when it hit Shanghai customs. Even after it was delivered today it hasn't been updated.

So mine has been in transit for about a month now. Wondering if it is lost or still on the way...Judging by responses they are giving people I will have to wait till the 15th before they do anything anyhow...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the (play side) picture that looks like a pressed disc. Do real ones actually exist, or that just lighting trickery?
