Quick cool story bro time. Remember lining up to see this at the local movies when I was 19 with my sis and future brother in law. They liked but I hated it.
Have grown to enjoy it a lot over the years, still dislike the midichlorian thing but have grown to tolerate jarjar and the kid actor. I really love the pod racing, darth maul, and the entirety of the final battle sequence w/duel of the fates playing in the background. Easily the best of the prequel trilo to me and may even enjoy it more than RotJ. As for the UHD if the HDR and compression are looking good, that may be enough for me to get it, maybe. |

At this point though, I actually kind of enjoy watching the film in a weird nostalgic way. |

The shots were flopped because they were deemed to editorially flow better that way, just as very modern films still do exactly the same thing without correcting them e.g. Vincent D'Onofrio's infamous shirt buttons in Jurassic World. Yes, Lucas deemed the flopped Imperial rank insignia to be enough of an issue in Empire to have them corrected digitally, but then in Jedi we still have that reversed shot of Lando bidding farewell to Han, so....

No amount of restorative magic can undo the insane amount of CGI Lucas used that has not aged well at all. It looks bad and always will...and that fits with the quality of work generally done on this particular film.

Actually, the shots WEREN'T flipped, because Ewan McGregor's moles were in the same places as every other time in the movie.

It still goes back to the same thing: if the braid was put on the other side then the shot was intended to be flopped but they ultimately decided not to.

That becuz reshoots and whatnot, as well as the wig Ewan looks noticeably beefier in the Phantom Menace pickups. And don't get me started on that truly awful fake beard he has in the Clones reshoots, with all the money they had they couldn't do anything better than that? It's like they swept up the contents of a barbershop floor and glued it to his face

Geoff's right, the beard in Attack of the Clones is WAY worse. Within a single scene, the beard will change back-and-forth to the point that you can't help but laugh. That scene in Dex's Diner, McGregor's got the normal beard the entire way, but then it ends with a shot of the reshoot beard that seems to have been thrown in for no real reason at all. I'd get angry/annoyed by it, but it's easier to just keep laughing and have a good time.
I barely even notice his hair in Phantom Menace, and I can't even tell you how many times I've seen the movie over the years. |

Yep, I'm the same with the reshot stuff in TPM, it's obvious but then I can usually spot a pickup from a mile away, not just in SW but in general. It's just so blatant to me when someone's build is different, or when they're wearing a wig/facial hair, or when they've been shot against greenscreen in a scene that was otherwise shot on a proper location - hell, sometimes you get all three of those things - but most of the time I just go with it because it's not so uneven that it takes me out of the movie. But holy Bantha shit that AOTC beard is just atrocious. He's also wearing a wig that doesn't quite match his Jedi Mullet but that I could've lived with as long as he still had the real face furniture. Can't wait to see it again in 4K!!
