Doubtful. None of the Marvel/Pixar catalog releases match the ones that came out day-and-date.

Is that good or bad? Have they messed with them at all? DNR? Edge enhancements? Stuff like that? DV or HDR?

It's everything I ever wanted the 1977 STAR WARS to be; my "home video holy grail". v1.4 is just about perfect, with only a few minor complaints: I still have to slightly desaturate my projector for the Mos Eisley cantina, or there are some wildly orange skin tones in there... and some of the spaceships in the ending battle are a bit more blue than I remember them being -- but I ain't complainin' cuz I love those original effects so much. It's just so freakin' good. All hail the Rebels who got this transmission out.
I guess I could just do that instead of spending $250 on some silly box set. Could someone pm me a legit link?

The colour grading and overall image quality of the 4K original trilogy is a lot better than the old Blu-ray version, although they do have noticeable DNR and edge enhancement.

There's a comparison of the 4K TESB restoration in a Lowry showreel (39 seconds in) with and without image processing, which demonstrates it - the processed section matches the Disney+ transfer (although the colour grade and cropping is different).

If you can access Disney+, I recommend previewing the transfers on there before buying anything. A lot of people like the new transfers, although it will offend some purists.

I just feel like some of Disney's 4k transfers have looked better on other platforms. I have no idea why that would be except for something going on with their side of things.

Wow got a hold of 4K77 and it is truly amazing. I do find I miss the Jaba and Biggs scene however. Did anyone figure out if Jaba has been fixed up for this release at all?

I have a UHD player.

I don't have a hard drive. Not sure I want to go down that road.

Is it better than the other fan projects?

Thanks for the info! I’m not a purist but releases which have too much DNR slathered on can get bothersome since it robs detail and you can end up with smearing or "off" looking scenes. Edge enhancement also can get weird. Color grading is important so it’s nice to hear that’s better but it’s also frustrating that Disney just has to digitally "Fock" with the transfers like that. But, iron man, Thor and other releases also have this issue from them.

I do have Disney plus and will have to check it all out. I was hoping the 4K release would be different or new but perhaps they’ll just be straight copies of what’s on Disney plus.

I haven't looked thru all the threads but I'm assuming they are not gonna release a box set and all them individually at the same time, so are all these gonna release later in year or do we just not know at this point??

Looks like everything is coming at once on 3/31/20. I could be mistaken, but that's what it's looking like.

I haven't seen 4K77, but I think the colors in Despecialized 2.7 are generally very good. Skin tones were improved a lot in that version compared to the previous ones.

Yeah, the Despecialized Editions are very well done, no doubt -- I shopped around a lot before coming to rest on 4K77 v1.4 as my go-to version -- but I personally prefer 4K77 simply because I know it's "all original". I don't like feeling all those fascinatingly complex rotoscoping moments Harmy has executed to pull off his combination of multiple sources. Except for a handful of frames here and there (which are well documented on the interwebs), 4K77 is straight off the original print... for better and for worse. And I'm suuuper into that, even if it's not technically the "best" image for every single scene. I also own the so-called Silver Screen Edition (taken from a different print) and 4K77 v1.0 (with wonky colors), and this new v1.4 gets it 95% right... which is amazing and wonderful and all I need to achieve true STAR WARS nirvana.

I'm in this dilemma as well. I want the OT in my collection but I'll likely never watch them cause I'll prefer 4KXX and Grindehouse.

I love Adywan’s ESB (how he fixed the Palps hologram). A special mix of 4K77 with Jaba and Biggs thrown in would be ideal. And 4K83 with the updated celebration thrown in (including Shaw).
