It's a really good film..... I have it on DVD......

I love the fact that Blu-ray is exposing a lot of people to movies they would have otherwise ignored.

Just seeing the title "Red River" made me sigh in anticipation.

I've had this movie with me since 2009, but I didn't have time to watch it. The movie looks beautiful. Some new movies don't look like this one, which is 54 years old. It's simply amazing!
I'm not going to comment on the movie itself because this is a classic, so everybody knows about it.
If you like westerns, this one is a must have, must keep.
I highly recommend it!

Just bought this about a week ago and just got to see it, and its amazing for a film of this age. The outdoor scenes blew me away, and the colors really pop. They really did a great job on this film, especially If you consider it to be one of the top 5 westerns of all time.
I've always been a Wayne film fan anyways, but this one performance in this film, just stands head and shoulders above most of his other films. He's just got that I've had it and nothing is going to stand in my way look perfectly, but almost scary at the same time.
True Grit gets all the attention, but this one should as well.
If you've never seen it, and I'm sure most have at this time, then don't hesitate, besides I think its only like $9 at amazon.

I totally agree and it is by far John Wayne's best film. It's amazing what Blu-ray can do for Vista Vision.

Totally agree. Argueably Wayne's best film, and about the cheapest reference quality blu-ray available.

Thanks for the review.
I will have to pick this up. John Wayne has an intensity in this film I have not seen in anything else he has done. Great movie.

"intensity" that was the word I was looking for thanks GVG.
I just figured everyone had seen this already, but I did a search and didn't find a thing.
Only one problem with this, and thats , now I'll think all the older films will come out this good on Blu-ray, and I'm pretty sure that just won't happen

I hated this movie when I saw it for the first time about a decade ago. I don't mind the American Western genre, but I always preferred the Spaghetti Western myself with its badass heroes and violent action. Watching John Ford's vision of the American West, I just didn't understand what this movie was. It was one part epic drama and one part comic farce. I bought the BD due to the rave reviews and thought I'd give it a second chance. Now I know what it's about. It's about Americana and a way of life. It's quite beautiful in that regard.

Great to see some new people discovering what many believe to be the greatest american made western of all time . The John Ford / John Wayne team have been responsible for some great films . When asked who was the greatest american film director off all time Orsen Wells responded "John Ford , John Ford , and John Ford ". May I recommend The Man Who Shot Liberty Valiance it is another classic and another great performance by the Duke that is also directed by John Ford.

One of my favorites, just watched it again last night.

One thing is to truly appreciate it is, like Lawrence of Arabia, is to watch it on a big screen. The scenographic (Wide, far distance) shots give it a sense of awe. In fact, The Searchers inspired David Lean to shoot Lawrence of Arabia in a way.

Even when it was one of the first blu rays to come out, it still looks way better than most contemporary films to come today. You can see detail in the clothing, the woodwork, the rocks, and the desert beyond that would have looked like going through a screen door in alot of movies today.

For those that think that it is another racist western might not have looked close to the film's subject about racism.
[Show spoiler]It wasn't that it is the Indians, or non-white races are the evil, it is that people in general are just as guilty of the crimes of genocide and retribution. Note the main character, Ethan, who is a hard racist, even people fearing that he would kill his own little niece (who was his only kin we find out) just because of her being raised by the Camanche. Both Ethan and the atagonist, Scar have a good understanding of each opposing culture, not because they know they are evil, they just have passionate hate for each other. You can compare it to Conservative reactions towards Middle Easterners, as well as what they think; it's more ego than reason.

The Searchers, along with Shane and High Noon are perhaps the best westerns ever filmed. I agree with all the positive comments. The Blu ray looks practically perfect. John Wayne is excellent. I am going to stick my neck out and say.. "I doubt you will find a better Blu Ray at this price."

I am quite happy to be an owner of one of the best movies ever made.

David Lean said that parts of this movie influenced the look of Lawrence of Arabia!+++

The detail? Great. Sharpness? Great. Clarity? Great. Color? Total and complete fail. Too yellow. Plain and simple and completely wrong - yellow bricks? No, always grayish. There are many threads about this all over the Internet - no one at Warners bothered to actually look at their dye transfer reference print - just never occurred to them. And at that juncture the man in charge just made it yellow like today's films because that's what he thinks everything should be. This is one of the greatest color films ever made, shot by the amazing Winton Hoch, who would turn over in his grave if he saw this. And yes, I know this film and its look VERY well, having owned both 35mm and 16mm dye transfer prints.
