Be very careful purchasing a UK DVD of Memories of Murder. The first pressing had a fault that kind of missed a chapter or portion of the film.

Just seen this.

I didn't think it could possibly live up to the hype .. but it does and then some. It's now taken over Uncut Gems as my favourite film of 2019. What an incredible year for film - even if us Brits can't see some of them until this year.

Take all my money Parasite.

I think they mean why has this film taken nearly a year since Cannes to be released in Cinemas.

I also don't get that it won BAFTAs DEASPITE being released AFTER said awards thus it NOT being in the qualifying period rules etc 🤔

It only had to have been screened for BAFTA voters by December 11th to qualify.

I don't really think that is quite the same thing. Lots of people had the same idea regarding the alternate version of Mad Max: Thunder Road, but that wasn't really black and white as such, being called the Black & Silver version because the 'colour' and tone grading were completely redone.

With a lot of Parasite's visuals being so dependent on its use of colour I'm intrigued to see how the black and white version compares.

Many people say the test of a great film is the ability to watch it silently and still know what's going on. You could add that watching a primarily colour film in monochrome and getting something at least equally as intriguing, visually impressive or entertaining is a similar benchmark...

More here (YouTube):
including the news that he's doing a tie in tv series to go with it... Intrigued!

I was being facetious

I wouldn’t mind checking out the b&w version at some point, but I’d rather not have to buy an overpriced steelbook to do it. Would be nice if both versions were on the normal edition. Edit - actually, it’s only 20 quid on hmv, so I guess it’s not that much more expensive.

I watched the fade to b&w Lady Vengeance the other day for the first time in ages (probably since seeing the original region 3 dvd release), and really enjoyed it.

Congratulations to Parasite for winning the following four Oscars:

Best International Film (formerly Best Foreign Language Film)

Best Original Screenplay

Best Director

Best Picture (made history as the first non-English language film to win this award)

I expect Artificial Eye will update their artwork before the UK release to reflect these wins along with the two BAFTA wins.

Wouldn't that be exactly what he'd be doing, given that he hadn't considered B&W while shooting? I know he means it's not an automated process, and contrast and grayscale will be tweaked by hand for each scene/shot, but it is pretty much putting it in a computer to make it B&W

Not just that, it's also not AFAIK a co-production with any major American studio (unlike Crouching Tiger).

It's a great film to be sure but I am ambivalent about its mainstream Best Picture film. The Oscars have always sold themselves as a Hollywood Awards Fest (with some leeway for British films), are they now changing to a Cannes or Berlin style awards where films from any country can be nominated in all categories?

I guarantee it's mostly for the PR;
"The first foreign film in history to win Best Picture"
"First time in history the same film has won Best Foreign Film AND Best Picture".
Not surprised at all.

It was, it seems like its unavailable right now for some reason. Either that or it's sold out.

Probably a price hike, thanks to the Oscar win.

It'd be nice if it was to include the B&W version.

Given only HMV undercut them and others were more.
Zavvi at £24.99 and Zoom at £31.99

With the Oscar win though I would expect Curzon to be upping the production run. They have plenty of lead time as HMV said it's a June release.
