Maybe they agreed to a new distribution deal with Universal on this film - or the old one still applies for UHD's even with the film changing hands? I guess we'll see if/when the other films get announced, we'll see what labels they went to (or if this Inglorious Basterds UHD gets a U.S. release date).

Either way, even if there is no US release I'll happily import from somewhere since no worries about region coding on UHD's. But I'd be surprised if it came to that.

Not saying that those rights haven't changed hands in terms of who now *owns* the product, but it seems like Universal's distribution for IB is still very much in place i.e. the owners changed but the contract with the distributor remained (like Fox continuing to handle Lucasfilm product despite Disney buying LFL years ago). I did say in another thread that the distributor doesn't overtly control what's done with the content, but maybe Uni have more autonomy with this title outside of the US?

This was a sure bet for a UHD release given that it’s Tarantino’s only Universal release and it’s not fully attached to Miramax.

I mean if Lionsgate buys Miramax, you can pretty much count on all their QT movies coming to UHD. Sony,and even Paramount I'd think would have intentions of UHD's as well.

I don't think any of those would rule out UHD releases. Maybe if some hedge fund or private equity buys them then you worry a bit more due to them not having established UHD distribution.
