I don't understand worrying about something that hasn't happened yet?

It's nice when a concern troll puts who they are literally in the title. Talk about refreshing...

I'll take a wait and see approach. I think it's a given that we won't see many releases this year. Even streaming services will have a drop in new releases; nothing is produced. As of now I have the feeling that when things pick up again (starting with new content being produced) things will go back to the way it was before, but yeah, if they will scrap something it'll be the 4k releases. As of now I'm mainly ''scared'' (no better word, I realise there are worse things in the world) that current TV shows will end without proper finales...because the hiatus would be too big.

Concern troll?

How, at all, is this trolling?

You got me on that one. Just to add some "context" to my comment, so ppl don't think I was trolling the OP or being flippant.

We have so many issues going on in our lives right now, I've found worrying about things that haven't happened vs being cognizant of what could happen helps manage anxiety/stress.

On the list of issues to stress (I'm inferring that) about, potential for a push back of release dates for a luxury entertainment item seems low on the list.

To counter my post, I also realize we are in a discussion forum about luxury entertainment items...so I'll shut up now.

Be as worried, or as cavalier, about these likely delays as you want, but it will make no difference. If the delays are going to happen, they will happen and no amount of hand wringing is going to change it.

General Merchandise is still being shipped to Wal Marts and all national chains...Trust me I'm a truck driver.

The Great Depression lasted over 5+ years...it's been a month. You can't buy Toilet paper, Face Masks and Lysol wipes on a daily basis...LOL @ you guys. 6 Months... pneumonia antibiotics and respiratory antibiotics help unless you wait to long and have trash health anyways.

Some places might go under but that happened before the pandemic it just magnifies weakness in bad or non-essential untalented business.... same as idiotic pandemic hoarders. Amazon still ships USA and most every other place Kino/Criterion etc...maybe slightly delayed, but you can get everything you need still. Even gasp movies. LOL! Oof.

U.S. unemployment claims hit 6.6 million for the week ending March 28th and that follows 3.3 million unemployment claims the week before it. 9.9 million unemployment claims over the last two weeks!

Discretionary spending on any number of luxuries is going to be delayed for millions of people.

I don't know how this is going to play out but it's been 2 weeks of virtual lockdown here. That's it. 2 weeks. It definitely feels like forever, we all know it, but already people are freaking out and are ready to "cancel 2020" and everything for the end of the year. I guess that's natural but I don't see any rational reason to jump to that point. You cannot stop the economy for months on end -- it's not going to happen. We will have people running around during the summer regardless of "quarantine orders" but I think things will be gradually ramping up by then anyway. I mean, it's the beginning of April. As "long" as this feels (understandably) we've been sitting at home here for little more than 2 weeks.

The gap for home video won't be as bad as it will be for theatrical releases. A lot of stuff won't come out in the next couple of months on disc -- so those titles will be delayed and will show up afterwards as a result. Thus there will be a glut of product at once come summer (or whenever we're outside "the curve" enough to "resume life" or however you want to put it).

The movies are something else and theatrical product will obviously have a big gap. Maybe the studios will fill it with catalog titles for UHD instead? Would be nice to see for a change. If I were them I'd start planning some of this stuff now so they can jump into it once they are back and able to resume manufacturing. While it obviously won't generate the sales of a new release product, at least it's something, and the market is going to be starving.

Either way I am glad I have lots of physical media sitting around -- as I'm sure we all are -- but let's not throw the towel in on this year entirely. It'll be quiet for a while, no question, and theaters are going to suffer completely with a lack of product -- no doubt -- but if anything, home video/home media will have a big time audience going forward regardless. The appetite for people watching movies at home is going to remain and there are still many consumers using discs.

I think the much larger issue isn't discs -- it's theaters. Even when people "get out again," I can see theaters struggling both with lack of product AND people resisting going out into huge groups at the same time. This could have a long-term ramification for the industry, especially with people now being exposed to streaming and realizing, some probably for the first time, all the options they have at home.

However I am concerned about what the future for disc will be after this, just as with so many other businesses and services that we take for granted in this modern life of ours. If they have to prioritise what types of discs they produce then this could be the end of 4K UHD on physical media, or at least the beginning of a long hiatus.
Many theater chains could finally be on their way out too. Studios may see this as an opportunity to sell directly to the public via studio direct streaming services in a tiered and timed pricing scheme (start out expensive for first-run product and then slowly, and I do mean slowly, decrease pricing). They never liked sharing revenue with theater owners in the first place and really don't care at what quality they distribute at as long as they make a profit.

That would also mean the potential end of disc production.

Most new movies are garbage, I won’t be missing much besides more classics being released .

It blows my mind some of the dudes on here buying every 4k release even if the movie sucks ass.

Here's another mind blowing idea: other people have different tastes in movies than you do.

My thoughts too. There's a ton of cinema's that just won't re-open after this and for the ones that do, they're going to have to convince people that being in
a large crowded public space to do something they could just as easily do at home is a viable and safe option. VOD and disc are probably much safer long term bets.

I kinda feel bad for anyone who's taste is so specific that they don't even think there are 100 movies worth owning on disc.
