I’ll get the set. Absolutely loved the series. Though I haven’t watched the last season yet, believe it or not.

Couldn’t believe that Cole was ‘Pyro’ in X-Men, The Last Stand.

I didn't notice any drop in PQ in seasons 3 & 4 compared to the first two seasons. I'm not super sensitive to compression issues but didn't notice any drop in quality.

Season 1 (560 min) and Season 2 (557 min) had 13 episodes each. Season 3 (452 min) had 10 episodes and Season 4 (482 min) had 11 episodes. Note though that Season 4's running time was only 30 minutes longer than Season 3 per the 2-part series finale. So to answer your question, no. No fall off at all. I watched this projected at 150" diagonal. Great looking show on Blu-ray from start to finish.

I noted the run times a couple posts back, but quite a few folks were worried that 240 min per disc would be significantly worse than 170-180. I'm not generally one that thinks it's inevitable, but so little has been posted about S3 and 4 PQ it's nice to hear 2 different posts give Universal credit for a good job.

OTOH if Mill Creek tries to put nearly 300 min per disc for S1 and S2 and with their history I don't think it bodes well

Bigger decision is whether to order S3+4 now from AUS at $20ea or wait a bit for them to drop to $12-14ea. Or hope that the next B&N 40% sale will allow an order around $20ea for the US sets.

The movie is one of my favorites. I never watched the series. I could get this I guess.

The WB DC shows regularly fit 5 to 6 episodes per disc (220-260 minutes) and I haven't seen major complaints about their AV quality.

But Universal isn't as good as Warner or Sony and MC is a couple laps short of either so seeing how they do 300 minutes on a single disc will be telling.

They done far worse with far easier content. Maybe it will turn out OK, but until it shows up I'm not expecting. MC has often downgraded sountracks, turned 5.1 or higher into 2.0 audio tracks and extras are always in danger. Masters of Sex is apparently very disappointing.

That said, they have done some releases justice so it's just and unknown.

If they carry over the features from the previous releases I'll definitely be picking this one up. I caught the first season Hulu a few weeks ago and stopped watching because I wanted to pick up the Blu-Rays at some point.

Yeah I kind of double that as they didn’t carry over any of the special features from Rockford (interviews with James Garner) and Quantum Leap (limited though they were)

I would imagine that they will use the same encodes from Universal just compressed to squeeze the other episodes on.

Bullmoose currently has this listed at 39.99. I'm not real familiar with pricing on Mill Creek titles. How likely is it that the price will go lower than that leading up to release or after? Do their titles tend to go out of print quickly or is it safe to wait?

I could see it maybe going $10 cheaper, due to number of seasons and how many episodes they had, but personally I'd wait to see what the quality is. Mill Creek can be iffy for some shows.

It will probably be the same as the UK releases which were region free just with more episodes per disc.

The sets have a total of 10 discs for all four seasons while this will have eight. If a universal did the transfers for them (very likely) they should look decent if a bit bit starved for some discs.

Again, if they are like the Quantum leap and Rockford sets these may be bare bones (only the first set of QL on DVD and BD had any while Rockford had the interview with James Garner on the second set). The only good news is that these, unlike those sets, should consist of the full episodes.

On a side note, I would love for ABC/Disney/Marvel to release Agents of Shield on Blu ray at least overseas as I usually import them anyway because they stopped issuing them here in the U.S.

Has there been any announcement of a blu-ray release for season six?

So it appears that all of the special features from the individual sets have been carried over to the boxed set based on amazon listing.

Special Features include:
- Deleted Scenes
- Gag Reels
- Cast Auditions
- Webisodes
- Emily Hampshire Improv Speech
- Podcast Commentary
- Inside 12 Monkeys Featurette

What a lot of folks don’t know is that this series originally had nothing to do with the movie. The pilot was called The Splinter Project and when the producers came across it, they asked the writers to re-write it just enough to incorporate elements from the film.

Fascinating, I did not know that. I rolled my eyes so hard when this series was first announced and avoided it for the longest time because I lost my tolerance for the constant stream of rehashed material (and as you can probably tell from my avatar, 12 Monkeys is one of my all time favourite movies).

It wasn't until around the time of the last season that I gave it a shot, after reading that the show eventually becomes something quite different from the movie. I'm glad I did, because I ended up liking it quite a bit. I thought the cast was very good. They have some very nice chemistry.

I guess original scripts being repurposed to fit into an existing property must be a fairly regular occurrence these days, huh?

And yes, I'm fully aware of the irony of me poo-pooing rehashes when Gilliam's 12 Monkeys was a repurposing of the concepts of La Jetée. The difference is I wasn't tired of remakes in the mid-90s!

I decided to blind buy the bluray complete series from amazon. The price is a little high right now but i had some points to take it down to a reasonable sum. The release date says July 14th, but my shipping window is July 31st-Aug 26th even with prime, which the set is prime eligible. Its very odd as all my other prime shipments have been on time with the exception of Pennyworth the first season. Maybe because someone said this set is MOD, the same as the PW bluray.

The Complete Series from Mill Creek isn't MOD, the individual season 3 and 4 sets from Universal were/are MOD.

Mill Creek is about as bad as MOD with release dates though, they get delayed a lot.
