Blu-ray Samurai

Well I just watched this on my long-awaited dvd and I bloody loved it.
Not sure why people don't. Also as it was said or written initially that nobody involved in the actual Showgirls participated, it's a bit misleading as there are many interviews from the time and later years scattered throughout, there are movie clips galore from Verhoeven and other mentioned related or unrelated movies, I came away thirsty for many of his movies and even two books mentioned in the movie. It definitely gives Showgirls a better understanding and certain context. I also need to say that the clip of the Hollywood cemetery footage with Elizabeth Perkley and a small but precious something that I hope many will appreciate, was just the icing on the cake. And she looked fantastic. Of course even as mentioned in the movie, some revisitation and change of mind from people involved takes place and they even quote that it was Verhoeven that drove Berkley to act the way she did in the movie (the lashing out, the urgency) but I think that is not the only offputting aspect of her acting: her acting in The Real Blonde and The First Wives Club is a bit similar, sans the urgency. Given the current heavy discount for this documentary, I can only recomment you buy it because it's not everyday they go through the trouble of doing this for a movie you like. |

I haven't seen this yet, but I definitely feel that Showgirls deserves it's own documentary. Looking forward to checking this out at some point soon.
I remember when the film came out, though didn't see it in the theater. I was in college at the time & was busy trying to finish up my classes so I could graduate, and wasn't really into going to movies at the time (nor did I watch much TV then, either). I do recall reading something about it featuring one of the stars from "Saved by the Bell" -which I had also never watched. I actually saw Showgirls much later on DVD, back in the 200X's. Great film, and it seemed to be at least somewhat realistic in depicting the lifestyle of these dancers. It was definitely trashy in a good way - but the story was interesting as well - i.e., it was far from just a "skin flick". [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler]

this movie will always be misunderstood solely because so many people want to believe they’re right, even when they entirely missed the point of the movie.
if you watched it now, you could have an entirely different reading. but that would requires the haters to believe they were wrong with their initial assessment. |
