Quote:
the series explores the timely issues of identity, community, historical authorship and patriotism, told from the point of view of Jess Morales, a twenty-year-old DREAMer who, with her diverse group of friends, sets off on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover her mysterious family history and recover lost treasure.
For the people expecting Nic Cage, they didn't leave any path for that in the movies, Templers, Lost City of Gold, were both tied to the same eastern USA family.

Verge has this comment "A reboot that’s willing to more critically examine America’s place in history could be an interesting new spin on the franchise, depending on how it’s handled."

How it should be done:
- Write your script
- Either have a casting call, or have your casting director find a selection of people to read for the part, regardless of race/gender*
- Hire the best person for the role

How it should not be done:
- Decide ahead of time to have a "diversity hire"

*unless the role requires it (biopic, cultural significance of character, historical accuracy)
Every writer has someone in mind for a part when they are writing. It is pretty hard for the character to have a personality with out someone you are emulating.

So your how it should be done is out the window.

For the second item, how it should not be done. Is inaccurate as well.

With some tv shows and movies, actors are already onboard. They just need to be assigned parts.

I will add one of my own.

If you or anyone thinks they know how things should or should not be done, it is pretty simple to create your own material. Try that instead of telling others what to do with theirs.

Easy solution is to avoid it. Infinite entertainment is easily accessible. Disney+ isn't the only game in town.

I feel that you're missing my point. If the screenwriter wrote these characters with certain races involved, then I'm fine with it. If the screenwriter was told by Disney to make the cast diverse beforehand, I'm not. The press release makes this project sound like the latter. National Treasure is a globe trotting series, so it should be diverse, but I can feel that way and still be against forced diversity.

I find the lack of Nic Cage disturbing.

Without Nicolas Cage I have no interest in this. Would rather have a National Treasure 3 film with him.

Well this is a disappointment.

I gave up on a sequel a long time ago, and it seems the ship has sailed on Cage being in blockbusters.

I thought the show wouldn't acknowledge the movies, guess I was wrong.

National Treasure is currently in production in Baton Rouge, Louisiana while Nick Cage films in New Orleans in 'Reinfield' as a vampire.

Yes, this series DOES tie into the previous films, with some familiar faces from the original movies like Justin Bartha as Riley Poole, (and others) and an all-new cast of new young talent. Catherine Zeta Jones is guest-starring as well.

I will drop one more tidbit...Armando Reisco also returns as Agent Hendricks from the first two movies.

I'm only a background extra, but I've spent the entire last week on set every day having a blast and getting to meet some wonderful new people.

UPDATE: I just returned from filming in my second episode as a FBI Agent for episode 6. Production is moving along nicely and this is one of the friendliest production crews I ever worked on.

I REALLY hope this show does well.

I ended up filming for 3 episodes as a FBI agent. I had so much fun on this show and met some wonderful people. I seriously can't wait till this is released.

As long as it keeps the fun of the films, I’m okay without Nic Cage caging it up. Although… The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent did have lot of Cage’s Disney movie references. Like a lot.

interested in this show, and I'm just kinda treating it as its own thing.

On a different note, I do wish Disney would put 1&2 out on 4K disc....

And I thought Netflix was getting toxic with their politics, Disney is just doing the same.

That said, Lisette Alexis is gorgeous.

You do know that since 1937, Disney’s animated films have had female leads and protagonists? The Sword in the Stone was able to change that but then The Black Cauldron completely derailed Disney Animation until a course correction with The Little Mermaid.
