So far, yes the account is a standard free SE account.

If they FFIV this game, I’m out. The door is open for them to do that. It’s even mentioned in the description in the PS Store.

I don't like that either. Apparently the PS4 Open Beta is available to pre-load but a comment on a site i read mentioned how they are making it Destiny like and grindy. That's a big no no imo for such a game and wish that wasn't the case. I'd have preferred a "points system" or similar where you can spend those on all characters equally to level them even if you don't play as one as often. That avoids making you have to "grind" and level a character up you now need to more easily complete a mission.

It’s got a bit of Destiny & Fortnite live service elements in the game.

The issue is all cosmetics are tied to in-game currency. I think you can grind for some skins. While ya level up pieces of gear, non of them are actually shown on your character. This will make collecting loot less appealing.

Ah, okay, so this isn't your usual 3rd person action game where you earn XP in-game then use that to build your skill tree, etc - this is a title with purchasable currency you can use to buy cosmetics? If it's just cosmetics, that's fine, to be honest if I do eventually pick this up I'll be treating it as a single player game, I'm not interested in the MP side at all.

As I plan to leave it for a while, I'll keep an eye on how Square develop it and see how they handle the feedback.

I think I heard someone mention you can do online missions solo & then the AI will fill the 3 heroes you are not using during the online mission.

If that’s the case, it is unlike Destiny as some missions require 2 or more people.

Had a good enough time with the beta.

None of your progress translates to the real game.

The Pro’s are definitely the visuals. The gameplay needs some improvements. Maybe they can better suit the camera for multiple enemy encounters & have a better enemy tracker.

I can see this game getting better if Square is committed long-term. The foundation ain’t too bad. More areas to explore would be a good start as the game missions are very linear. I’d also unlock the main hub as a starting point before seeing the “War Table”

I think they did an ok job with repeated missions as the enemies scale to your power level. The loot in the game is meh. As is the skill sets. Not much to see or care about here.

Online play shouldn’t be required. AI fills your squad.

I already bought the game, but I wouldn’t recommend it until they’ve made some expansions & overall big improvements along with PS5 enhancements.

3 problems with that.

1. He’ll have to be connected to the internet to download the game.
2. He’ll have to be signed into PS Plus to get past the Main Menu.
3. He’ll have to link his PSN to Square-Enix.

Cool. I wonder if the beta is the only reason it says Online required at the moment. Maybe they'll remove that, if that video truly allows offline play from the start. I know some very rare games say they require online play, but when you load the game, there's an offline option. I think World War Z and Ark are like that. They tout being online games, but offer offline play without having to connect. That's rare though. The Crew 2 is absolutely required to be online, even though that game could really be programmed as offline, but they just won't allow it.

I’m already linked to Square.

So I’ll have to cut the net from PlayStation options to find that out if it’ll let me progress past the main menu.

Thanks. Yeah, I wonder how they'll allow it in the final game for offline play. If you have to check in for the final game disc, that would stink for anyone who doesn't have reliable internet for some reason.

I have good internet, but it's nice to know at any time you can start playing a game disc freshly installed in the unknown future without having to reconnect to Square just to be allowed to play the game, which wouldn't be good. I'm thinking that's only because this is the beta and they like to track things.

I havn’t tried disconnect during beta.

I’d hold off on purchase. I’m hoping the campaign is a lot bigger than the beta. Also hoping the MP missions get better. I enjoyed the 2 days I played but already repetitive.

The beta only contains the multiplayer mode I'm guessing, which would require a constant connection.

I read that linked article again and it seems like a sure bet that the Avengers PS4 will be playable entirely offline. Here's a development quote from it:
"We want somebody to be able to go buy a disc and never have to go online," he explained to GI.biz. "You don't have to. You can have a complete experience and have fun."

I wish all developers were like that with games like The Crew 2 and Division 2, etc.
