Lot of issues with the Vizio OLED on AVS forums. First issue is raised blacks after doing a FW update. The screen glows and can be seen in a dark room. So not having perfect blacks is a big problem. Also D-Nice, a respected calibrator, could not recommend this tv as there is a lot of issues that cant be fixed with calibration.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I didn't know where else to ask this question. I bought a Vizio 4K TV a couple weeks ago after my old 1080p died. Everything was working fine for several days, but earlier this week my blu-ray player stopped putting out audio through the soundbar (Netflix, etc. sounds just fine). I tried all sorts of things, including getting a new HDMI cable, and nothing worked. I decided that my blu-ray player was shot and made the switch to a 4K UHD player, thinking that would solve the problem. In any event, my new player arrived today, and after setting it up, I discovered I still have the same problem, no audio coming out through the soundbar. It was only after switching to the TV speakers and then switching back to the soundbar that the player finally put out audio through the soundbar. I decided to adjust picture settings for the player. However, when I exited from that, the sound disappeared again. I had to fool around with the ports and switch to the TV speakers and back again, for the player to start putting out audio through the soundbar once more. Needless to say, I'm very frustrated, given the money I've spent. I shouldn't have to pull teeth to get the player to work with the soundbar. It wasn't like that at the beginning, everything was working fine. I'm trying to figure out what's wrong. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: I did a little more research, and I tried connecting the UHD player HDMI output directly to the soundbar, because I read that would actually reproduce a disc's lossless audio. It worked great. I then tried to get rid of the optical cable altogether by also connecting the TV to the soundbar with HDMI. That didn't work, though, as the problem was reversed, with no audio from Netflix, etc. Any ideas as to why that might be?
I ended up having to reconnect the optical cable for the streamed content audio to work. Given that streamed audio supposedly isn't lossless, I guess it's no big deal sticking with the optical cable for Netflix, Prime Video, etc., but ideally I'd like to use HDMI for everything. |

Thanks. There shouldn't be any need to use the optical cable.
I'd try plugging the Vizio's ARC into the Samsung's HDMI OUT (TV), which is the ARC, make sure ARC is enabled with the TV as well as the HDMI control option (I think TV is the right source). See if the TV's App's output sound. Then add your player to the Vizio and try that to see if you get sound. I can't see any reason as to why you'd plug a device into the Samsung, unless you run out of inputs with the Vizio. |

![]() While we're on the subject, though, can anyone recommend a good LED screen scratch remover? I noticed today while tinkering with the cables that my less-than-three-weeks-old TV has some small, but ugly scratches. ![]() |

Was the screen protected completely? or did it just have the long panels on the side with all the logos on them? |

One last question. Will the fact that my player is directly connected to an older, pre-HDR/Dolby Vision soundbar now instead of the 4K TV affect playback of those features? I'm watching the Flash Gordon 4K UHD disc right now, and the colors really pop, so I guess I'm okay. I just want to make sure I'm getting the full effect. I noticed that my player display says 1080p/60 and HDR>SDR for the movie. Shouldn't it say 2160p and just HDR?

I just did some googling, and that's what I'm going to have to do. My soundbar is at least seven years old, so I'm pretty sure it's not 4K/HDR compatible. I'll connect the player directly to the TV.

I connected the player directly to the TV once again, and now, I'm finally getting the full effect. The player now reads 4K/24p Dolby Vision HDR while playing the movie. ARC was the key to everything. I think I'm FINALLY done tinkering. Thanks so much for your help, guys!
