IMDb removed the horror genre tag from The Silence of the Lambs again. Seems like an endless battle.
I recall the same happening to Jaws. It's been tagged and untagged with horror for years.

It's a thriller, if it were a horror film I would expect there to be more blood.

Should that really be the measure of a horror movie? Tons of classic horror films don't show any blood at all. Psychological horror films are also quite often light on blood.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is famously almost blood-free, so that can't be a criteria, but SOTL still isn't a horror movie though

TCM and SotL feature people wearing leather made from human skin. In fact, something people tend to overlook is that SotL has more than one character skinning people for that purpose. If that’s any indication then SotL is actually more of a horror movie than TCM.

Difficult to argue against that!

SOTL still feels more like a detective thriller with horror elements than a true horror though, possibly because of the restrained performances when compared with most horror-horror movies??

Definitely can feel like a horror film at times but I have always considered it a psychological thriller.

You know films can span a number of genres. Is Alien a science fiction film, of course it is. Is it also a horror film, yes.

Some of the best films can’t be pigeon holed into a single genre.

I would say that Jaws is a horror film, it also has elements of a buddy movie, thriller and suspense.

And that’s not a supernatural shark they’re chasing.

Of course that's true, but it was a binary proposition in the original question that therefore required a binary response despite the fact that every fool knows that hardly anything worth watching is simply one thing (Evil Dead 2 is a comedy, but some people see horror aspects in that too, and I think they're right)
