That is the first thing that came to mind and I think we can all agree that having the choice of watching a film in open matte, shifting aspect ratios or scope on home formats would be ideal. Although I would argue that a 4k digital stream being projected is arguably better then what you would see in theaters and since all Nolan films are 2:35:1 digitally you have an easy solution, obviously you won't get the absolute best audio or picture quality but a compromise does exist.

I made sure to buy the US Blu-ray of Interstellar because it came with a DVD in the fixed 2.39 aspect, and to be perfickly honest I prefer it in that ratio. But the DVD looked pretty bad and I don't stream, so I'll stick to the UHD disc.

Not sure if that was directed at me, but I can assure you that your 65 inch TV costs more than my 4K projector and screen.

This has nothing to do with snob appeal. I have a 65 inch TV in my living room for watching TV programs and the nightly news. While it is beyond argument that flat panels eke out a "better" picture in every metric, I would never dream of watching a movie on my TV and would never waste my bulb life watching TV in my theater (hockey is the only exception ). The size, reflective properties and overall look of a backlit image could never give me the theatrical feel I get from watching a projected image in my dadcave.

You and your cohort seem awfully dismissive of others as simply "bored nitpickers" and then retreat to specious arguments about the size of one's pocketbook. As I've said earlier, if you would spend 5 minutes in a home theater you'd understand better.

Usually, the market decides and I would simply accept it if I believed that there was no room for more than one release. However, in a world where an even smaller niche like 3D continues to receive them, I suspect that this has more to do with this director than anything else.

As an aside, as much as multiple aspect ratios mess with my "black hole" matting system, The Hunger Games transition is off the charts cool.

I had to laugh at this... are you referring to me as his cohort simply because we share the same opinion? I know I am being nit-picky on this but it sounds very defensive when we just don't share the same feelings on the aspect ratio stuff... I do not think that means we need to be lumped together like that. Oh well.

But on a serious note - I guess you could still argue that projectors have more of a niche market than a regular TV does and thus aspect ratio changes that may look bad on that presentation only affects a small subset of people. As I noted before, these studios definitely put little mind to what makes a smaller group happy.

For the sake of everyone annoyed by the shifting ratio... sure, I genuinely wish you had some version that works for you. I just still find it to be a smaller group that has these complaints.

Day 1, but I'll also see it in the theater if/when that ever becomes a possibility.

No Dolby Atmos. Just Dolby Vision via your Dolby Cinema screening.

Pieter , Kinepolis says it's showing this with Dolby Atmos and even the Dolby website says it's Dolby Vision and Atmos where other Nolan movies only showed Vision so what's your source on saying it's not going to have Atmos ?

All releases in Netherlands: List giving by Pathé Netherlands.

I don't see any Dolby Atmos screenings on the Kinepolis website either? The Dolby website hasn't been updated in a while, since they launched their new website. Remember Dunkirk?

They are showing TeneT in Laser Ultra which means it at least has Dolby Atmos or else they would not show it in the Laser Ultra theater but in a regular auditorium like they did with Dunkirk

Nothing here:

https://kinepolis.nl/movie-formats/laser-ultra (see bottom)

https://kinepolis.nl/films/tenet (see right info section)

Nothing here:

The only reason they are showing it in Laser ultra venues is for the 4K DCP projector..

Compare Unhinged (2020) screenings with Tenet (2020) for Laser ultra.
