Yes, the Universal blu-ray is quite awful. It's as bad as Universal's Weird Science blu-ray. Thank you Arrow for not using Universal's existing HD master and giving it a 4K restoration!

I avoided buying the Universal Blu-ray for a long time in hopes Shout Factory would release it. Eventually I ended up getting it out of the Walmart bargain bin but would always be glad to finally replace it. It took a lot longer than I thought though.
I really do wonder what exactly are the conditions for Arrow to release a film on UHD. This is a Universal license with a new 4K scan, not much different from what they're doing with Flash Gordon outside of Studio Canal's involvement. Yet no UHD.

As said above October 13th will be expensive for me (with The Friday 13th Set) but this is a must have (even though I have the original release) can't wait to see it done right. My hope (and it's probably a pipe dream) is a cast reunion/retrospective.

LCR with mono surround. It's essentially the layout of the old Dolby 70mm "baby boom" format, except with one low-frequency channel instead of two.

I don't know, but in the case of this movie, the new remaster is the main selling point for me.

Also, between the 5.1, 4.1, and 2.0 tracks, hopefully at least one of them will have that bit of music that's missing from the existing Blu-ray.

I would be surprised if they are not able to get an interview or audio commentary from Catherine Mary Stewart.

This looks amazing. This was the first movie I ever bought on any format on VHS in the mid 80s when my Dad first got a VHS player. Full of nostalgic memories. I can pretty much reel the dialogue off verbatim!!!!

Good choice by Arrow considering the Universal Blu ray looks worse than the CE DVD and also has missing sound effects

Does anyone know if Arrow's US releases are typically region free or locked? Absolutely would love to get this, but...

I know the music in one scene is gone, but what sound effects are missing?

A US only release is most likely locked, since they wouldn't have the rights to release in other countries. Same with a UK only Region B release.

Yeah I was thinking the other day that I would dearly love a 4K release of this, BUT I'll settle for a new scan on blu-ray. As someone who stuck with the old CE DVD, I am absolutely all in on this.

Can't wait!!!

Long overdue.

The Universal transfer, as others have already said, is awful and the audio is messed up as well (missing elements).

A shame this is not getting released over here in the U.K. though.

Ah well, looks like I'm importing.

Along with Mallrats, another Universal title that I'll be double dipping on despite having autographs on the original release.

The new transfer certainly helps with that decision...
