So I’m watching this in Dolby Vision and I noticed some oddities. In chapter 9 courtroom scene, there seems to be a strange flicker where the whites get brighter and then darken. It happens later in chapter 10 as well with the sky. It seem to darken and lighten. That scene is problematic and in the commentary Lustig comments on faulty stock or lab issues but I mean the weird flickers sky effect. I tried it in regular hdr and the weird white flicker doesn’t seem to happen. If anyone has the same issue can you please compare? I will post one shot with the weird flicker

The light from the door brightens and darkens in Dolby Vision. It also happens throughout the whole scene. Chapter 10 as well. I’m trying to figure out if the problem is with my equipment or the Dolby Vision. No issues with HDR.

Holy smoke, jaw-dropping levels of fine detail in this transfer - it virtually leaps off the screen. Wow.

The transfer looks incredible.

The detail and the original blu had a teal push to it.

It is now gone on the 4K thankfully!

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same thing -- I don't have Vigilante yet -- but there is a quirk specific to some Blue Underground UHD BDs and particular combinations of equipment.

When this has come up before -- like with The New York Ripper -- the common threads seemed to be (1) OLED, (2) Dolby Vision, and (3) Panasonic 820 or Oppo 203.

If I disable Dolby Vision on my Panny 820, those shifts in brightness never occur. With Dolby Vision enabled on my old Philips 7502, I don't see them either. It's bizarre, and I haven't come across this on titles from any other label (nor have I spotted it on every Blue Underground release).

I don't have Vigilante myself yet to confirm if I'm seeing this here too.
It's not just restricted to Blue Underground releases. Other 4K releases out there share a similar problem with Dolby Vision and the Panasonic 820 (not heard near as many cases with the Oppo), like the Lionsgate release of Ghost in the Shell.

I do have the 820. I wasn't aware of this issue with the other titles. Thanks for the feedback.

For those who're obsessed with slipcovers will love this one. The 4K UHD has a lenticular slipcover that looks 3 dimensional. It's pretty cool looking.

Amazing transfer on this one. Listening to and enjoying the Troy Howarth / Nathaniel Thompson commentary, but Thompson needs to stop talking so fast. It's stressful.

I noticed the exact same issues on my setup, and I'm running a Sony UBX-700 through an Onkyo receiver to a TCL Series 6 TV. Never had this happen on any other BU titles, or any other label for that matter, but it was a distraction nonetheless.

Same here on my Panasonic. Occurs a few times more over the running time of the movie.

Just wrapped it up and it was awesome. Where the Death Wish films are thrillers, this played almost like a horror film in terms of narrative and just the dark shit in there. Man, it was really hardcore in terms of violence. I think the music score also elevates the horror factor. It reminded me of Christine in some parts due to how the music was used.

The 4K disc is fantastic.

Same here. it feels like the dynamic metadata is almost 1 second late. Never had this issue with any other DV movie.

x700 --> Denon --> C8

I went to watch this tonight and the flicker that others are describing is really distracting. So, I came here, saw that there was a way to fix the problem, and it worked. So, I start watching the film again and at 38:49, the disc freezes up and won't let me advance. I take the disc out, wipe it down (it was spotless when I put it in the player and was spotless when I cleaned it), put the disc back into the player and it freezes at the exact same point. Tried it again and chose the chapter after the freeze and it won't even load. Sucks as I was really liking the film. I ended up finishing the film on the included blu-ray.

Now, I have to go through hassle of contacting the seller (bought on eBay) and returning it.

I have the Dolby Vision issue on my X800M2. It looks perfect in HDR10.
