Haha same. They still look like plastic to me and I’m still not used to it.

If Disney was smart, they’d carve out all the properties they’re interested in from Fox, so all the kids movies, Marvel, Star Wars, Simpsons etc. and then just sell off the rest of the catalog again.

They clearly have no interest in mature catalog titles, so why let them collect dust when they can make a quick buck selling it off again

Exactly, let other studios have the rights to them. Lord knows I can't imagine Alien and Die Hard without 20thFox, but I'd rather they thrive, than be held down by some b!tch ass mouse.

In the Home Alone 4K thread a few of us predicted this lol. Back on Aug 3rd. As always his sources are blu-ray.com message boards.

The third word in the title of Bill Hunt's latest clickbait article is "APPEARS."

YES, IT APPEARS THAT DISNEY CURRENTLY HAS NO PLANS FOR MORE LIVE-ACTION CATALOG ON PHYSICAL 4K

This is just his speculation and it is not even original on his part. Our forum members have been discussing this rumor since July 31st a full week before Hunt's latest "revelation."

This forum member has been reporting this rumor as fact since July 31st in the thread about the upcoming 4K release of Home Alone based upon his alleged secret industry source.

A few minor exceptions, content that is already in the Disney brand and James Cameron films. Otherwise, everything else from Speed, Roger Rabbit to Unbreakable etc - 4K digital release only.
Our members have been chewing on it ever since. Bill Hunt just got ahold of his rawhide bone today.

Not that it matters, but he actually reported it even before that in the Speed thread (same day): https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=20

Well, if the revenue figures Bill posted are right, at least Disney may see that they kinda shot themselves in the foot a bit by not having any kind of plan at all for physical media. If the other studios are up the year, and they're down... well, kinda makes their execs look a little bad. A healthy physical media business might've helped cushion the blow from their hollowed-out theme park business while COVID is going on.

The article at least offers some hope in the suggestion that Disney may, at some point, be open to licensing more stuff out to boutique labels. If we can't get UHDs, the next best thing would be updated blu-rays sourced from modern 4K scans with better encodes. Those can still look pretty darn good.

In the meantime, as I've said elsewhere, I'll be minimizing any money spent towards Disney. I'm not going to deny myself new releases of theirs I like, however I don't intend to subscribe to Disney+ for more than 1 month out of each year. I'll binge what I like, and cancel again 'til next year when I can binge any new stuff that's come out, etc. I'll also never pay Disney for a rental or purchase of a digital-exclusive 4K title.

For all the good it probably won't do, I'm also going to be writing an actual, honest-to-god letter to Bob Chapek to express my disappointment and hope that he'll eventually motivate the company to change course on this aspect of their businesses. There's no reason why they can't keep two revenue streams going at once. And if he's like most other people in his age group, a real letter is far more persuasive than an e-mail (which I'd say has even less chance of reaching the man).

Yup, they should just keep the Fox Marvel properties, whatever Star Wars rights Fox had, and sell the rest. If Disney can't properly handle and appreciate the classics that Fox owns, they need to sell it to a company that will treat those films like gold.

Michael Eisner's tenure at Disney wouldn't have done this, he would have embraced Fox and everything Fox owned. Disney used to have some class and appreciation for cinema. Now it's just social politics and McDonalds level business models.

Did anybody think the opposite? They only bought Fox just to pad D+ a little more and to get the Marvel rights under one studio. They could at least license out everything other than the family-friendly stuff they want, but Disney's weird like that. They don't want other people to make money off them, but also don't want to do the work to get the money themselves, which is why they barely even put shows out on DVD. Do we know how well Gravity Falls sold from Shout?

Appears isn't a good word to build something on, it's not like Disney announces the majority of their stuff months in advance, so it would 'appear' nothing is ever coming out after Hocus Pocus... until they announce something.

With everything either stalled or slowly moving forward right now, I wouldn't expect them to be dropping titles left and right... but once things get a little more back to normal, they might put some out. Maybe not a lot and not very often, but surely something.

I just think they are misreading their target audience. They don't understand that the lack of physical won't bring people to subscribe to D+. I would have liked Who Framed Roger Rabbit on 4K. Same with The Sound of Music. But I'm not subscribing just for that. I'll live with the Blu-ray if I have no choice. It's fine. I'm fine.

I don't subscribe to D+ and can't imagine I ever will. If I have to live with Blu-rays of various quality then so be it.

I finished out my Pixar and Marvel stuff but I'm probably done buying anything Disney and have passed on all SW after Last Jedi.

At least Warner releases many of its TV shows on Blu or sometimes 4k no matter where it first airs (online, CW, HBO) and they go on sale fairly quickly.

Disney doesn't want my money and that's fine. There's lots and lots of other stuff out there.

I think I asked this in the Home Alone thread, what happens to things like The Towering Inferno that are Fox and WB?

Can you see that being released in the UK as WB as normal or would WB look to purchase the fox half and have the film completely.

Also I think if Disney said to WB do you want to buy Die Hard, Speed, The Rock etc they would probably say yes.

Disney would get even more money from the sale and they wouldnt worry about those titles on their books anymore.
