It's not very close at all really (maybe just some of the very basic plot elements and characters). The screenplay novelization (not the PKD classic original) was even better than the movie.

Almost every PKD based movie only uses some basic themes from the books rather than the story arc. I had read almost all of them a few years back. Memory is a bit foggy but Blade Runner probably deviates the most and A Scanner Darkly probably is the closest to the book.

My damn-near holy grail of lost footage, to be never found for sure but man I wish someone could unearth the lost uncut gore just as deleted scenes - Saw this on opening night back in '90, what a fun experience that night was! Was a fun sold out crowd..

I directed Robert Costanzo ina lil movie I made and while on set/ona break I asked him to say "ohh Recall! Recall, Recall" in the voice from the movie, he did it ina heartbeat!

I don't get why Carolco didn't allow for two cuts of the movie to exist, the American R-rated cut and a bloodier international cut.
