Avenging Force with Michael Dudikoff. It was originally intended to be a sequel to Invasion USA, with Chuck Norris reprising his role as Matt Hunter. When Norris decided not to return, direct references were removed and Hunter's daughter was rewritten to be a little sister, rendering it a standalone movie even though Dudikoff's character is still named Matt Hunter.

Love that flick, way better than Invasion USA.

World War Z is an okay sequel to 28 Weeks Later. Although I would prefer an actual sequel to 28 Weeks Later.

Last Flag Flying is a sort-of-sequel to The Last Detail.

I'm not sure if "spirtual successor" is close enough to a sequel, but Everybody Wants Some!! technically, chronologically follows Dazed and Confused, I guess?

Charters and Caldicott were two minor characters in Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes. They then appeared in many British films and radio programmes throughout the 40s and eventually they got their own TV series, which makes them all sequels to the Hitchcock classic.

Two indirect prequels:

The Val Lewton horror classic The Seventh Victim features the character of Dr. Judd (Tom Conway) from Cat People, which makes it an unofficial prequel to that film

Lucio Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters/Zombi 2 was definitely not an official sequel, it was a cash-in on Dawn of the Dead but it inadvertently works as an alternative prequel.

I always felt Train to Busan takes place in the same universe as World War Z, the zombies are exactly the same type ( fast zombies who "swarm"). The "zombies" in the 28... films are different, they are alive humans infected with a virus who lie dormant during the day.

Not in the same continuity, but a fan fiction universe exists where GMK's one-line reference to what happened in New York would line up awfully well with G98.

Kung Fu Yoga is a sort of unacknowledged sequel to The Myth (even using its love song as an instrumental) and both are sort of side-quels to the Armor of God trilogy. Similarly New Police Story and Police Story Lockdown are separate side-quels to the original four films while Project S focuses on Michele Yeoh's character with a cameo from Chan's (the completely unrelated Bleeding Steel was cynically retitled Police Story Reborn in Japan, but that's another story).

Back in Hollywood, US Marshals may qualify.

Death Sentence should be titled Death Wish VI: A New Generation.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Death Sentence. Yeah, Death Sentence is actually suppose to be the real Death Wish II, if you go by the novels anyway. But then again, the movies Death Sentence and Death Wish II don't follow the novel at all.
