Today would have been Jason David Frank's 50th Birthday. Here's artwork Bat in the Sun had commissioned.

So, Billy is one of the main characters in Cosmic Fury.

Did not see that coming. I guess once they've addressed Yost's concerns over returning, the floodgates have opened.

I doubt they will be main characters, but Heckyl (Dino Charge Dark Ranger) and Mick Kanic (Ninja Steel Red Ranger) will also be returning.

I'm excited for this mini series. Will be sad though, knowing it is prob. ending the living action. I hope Hasbro decides to do some PR movies, maybe straight to streaming. I'd love to see some based on Zeo, Turbo, Space, SPD and Mystic Force.

At least I'll finally have time to catch up on the overall franchise.

I stopped regularly watching after Mystic Force, and I'm still in Zeo re-watch wise.

The 30th Special was proof of concept in a way for an older children/teen series. It worked, wasn't too adult but brought in actual, final death (previous main rangers who died were always resurrected IIRC) and the fights were much more brutal, more like the Toku originals that were watered down for the US show.

The toys though... I doubt they'd go too far from their core market for that reason.

Adrian Carr has uploaded his original opening for the unaired Pilot (well one of the unaired Pilots, lol). Nice to see how much was different from what the first OG Pilot was to the finished Pilot. Especially the extra monster fight scene.

Damn, looks like the netflix deal has been cancelled. Hasbro is looking for a new partner.

Damn. They should have just done another Sentai adaptation in the meantime instead of canning those after Cosmic Fury.

It's a shame they committed to "ending" the 30 year continuity in order to facilitate a reboot, only to cancel the reboot and drop the brand.

The thing is, it ended in a way where it could still easily continue. It ended with a kinda/sorta sense of closure. But the door wasn't closed either.

They could easily start another season based on another Sentai and just do the usual thing they would do from one season to the next.

Of course I believe they completely shut down all aspects of production in New Zealand, so they would have to reestablish that somewhere.

This is what I felt. Like we’re not the audience for this show; it’s designed to sell to toys to kids. I get that. I do. But what other show can claim to have 30 years of continuity? I wish they had at least kept those other seasons in canon around.

Welcome to the Neo-Disney Era ladies and gentlemen: https://www.thewrap.com/live-action-...hasbro-disney/

Quote:
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action “Power Rangers” series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Hasbro will produce the series, which will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.

The ’90s TV show, originally called “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” was inspired by a Japanese children’s show, “Super Sentai” (even using footage from that show). It featured five teenagers who gain the ability to “morph” into superheroes known as the Power Rangers, complete with their own mech fighters. A film version of the series that starred most of the original cast was released in 1995, with a second one in 1997 (this one featured only a few original cast members).

The series has had many different iterations throughout the past 25 years.

The development of “Power Rangers” is part of Hasbro Entertainment’s ongoing strategy to elevate storytelling and produce series based on Hasbro’s most iconic brands alongside the industry’s best talent, studios and distribution platforms. Beyond “Power Rangers,” Hasbro Entertainment’s active projects include a re-imagining of “Clue” across film and television with Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television; a live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” series “Forgotten Realms,” currently in development at Netflix with Academy Award nominee Shawn Levy executive producing; showrunner Terry Matalas’ animated “Magic: The Gathering” series, currently in production at Netflix; a major, live-action film and television universe adapted from “Magic: The Gathering,” produced alongside Legendary Entertainment; and game shows based on “Trivial Pursuit” and “Scrabble,” which both premiered on The CW this past fall.

Steinberg and is currently the co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” for Disney+, along with his producing partner Shotz. It just wrapped its second season and has been renewed for a third. Other credits include the critically acclaimed series “The Old Man,” starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow for FX. Both series are produced by 20th Television/The Walt Disney Company, where Steinberg and Shotz have housed their production company, Quaker Moving Pictures, since 2019.

It's funny how full circle this came out:

-(20th Century) Fox picked up Power Rangers to air on their Kids block and co-produced the first two movies.

-Then Fox sells selected assets which included Power Rangers to Disney.

-Disney buys Fox in 2017 (which included the 2 PR movies)

-Now a new PR series is coming to Disney+ with Fox co-producing it.

We've come a long way...

And honestly great move; I know Disney/Fox will treat it better.

This is great news, even though Hasbro still owns Power Rangers!

I love the older Disney tv shows, hopefully this is similar to them.
