Nobody was asking for 4k either.

I do not want the motion-smoothing feature, but every ****ing TV has it and most default to it on.

Lg really need to smarten up , dumping 3D was just a cost-saving exercise . They had the best implementation and some of us had acquired quite a few 3D movies (how are we supposed to watch 'Avatar' ? ) But , no thought for the customer .....

Earlier this year Lg offered to change power supply on my G6 OLED . A few weeks later my set has mysteriously developed 2 permanent red stripes at top and bottom of screen . But of course now Lg say tv is out of warranty and wash their hands of it all and I'm left with a potential bill of >£3k . So no more Lg anything for me .

And by the way ....Some of us have to wear glasses watching movies anyway so it's BS to suggest that was the reason 3D 'failed '.

Wearing corrective vision glasses is nothing like wearing either polarized or active shutter glasses. Try reading a book or magazine with them.

My glasses aren't chunky.

~one f-stop darker glasses don't prevent reading, heck I used to read books by candle and flashlight at 1am as parents slept.

They are not sunglasses. They are either polorized or active shutter. Nice try though.

Passive 3D are sunglasses.

https://www.ray-ban.com/usa/sunglasses/polarized

Polarized sunglasses adjusted for 3D.

Instead of both eyes having the polarizing filter mounted in the same direction – – they have each eye's filter in the opposite direction | – to each other to work with the | – polarization filter on the 3D TV so the filter blocks the 90º (perpendicular) polarized light of the unwanted eye only letting pass the half that's polarized in the same direction as the filter's. And since that's the only thing required they're not darkened any further than that

LCD blocking works similar.

As I already have the OLED incoming HDR signal set up a little bit darker (example, HDR 100 nit to 70nit) so highlights fall more in the straight section of the TV's PQ curve, then if I put on the "3D sunglasses" for 3D and have 3D SDR set a lil brighter (example SDR 100 nit to 140nit) this results in about the same calibrated brightness for both.

You seem to have an aversion to 3D tech. Nice try

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLARIZED & NON-POLARIZED LENSES?
Light travels in waves, which means it vibrates. Normally, light vibrates in multiple directions. But when light bounces off a horizontal surface like snow, water, or the roof of a car, it only vibrates in one direction, horizontally. This process is called polarization.
Because the light is only vibrating in one direction, it becomes concentrated, hitting the eye directly. We call this concentrated light, “glare.”
The difference between polarized and non-polarized lenses is how they handle glare.

POLARIZED LENSES
Polarized lenses are treated with a chemical that filters out light. However, the filter is applied vertically, so vertical light can pass through, but horizontal light cannot.

Think of it this way: imagine a picket fence with an inch between each slat. You could easily slide a popsicle stick between the slats if you hold it vertically. But if you turn the popsicle stick sideways so it’s horizontal, it can’t fit between the slats of the fence.
That is the general idea behind polarized lenses. Some vertical light can pass through the filter, but horizontal light, or glare, is unable to make it through.

IMPROVED CLARITY
Even when glare is not a safety issue, it can impact your ability to see clearly. Athletes and outdoor hobbyists often use polarized sunglasses so they can see with a higher degree of precision.
Polarized sunglasses may also give you a more accurate portrayal of colours than non-polarized sunglasses.

ARE POLARIZED LENSES BETTER FOR MY EYES?
Polarized lenses will not protect your eyes from UV damage more than standard 100% UV lenses. However, they can give you clearer, more accurate vision and alleviate some eye strain.

https://stoneycreekeyecare.com/what-...for-your-eyes/

WHAT ARE POLARIZED LENSES FOR?

How Polarized Lenses Work
Polarized lenses have a special chemical applied to them to filter light. The chemical’s molecules are lined up specifically to block some of the light from passing through the lens. Think of it like a miniblind hanging in front of a window. Only light that passes through the blind’s openings can be seen.

Polarized sunglasses reduce glare from waterOn polarized sunglasses, the filter creates vertical openings for light. Only light rays that approach your eyes vertically can fit through those openings. The lenses block all the horizontal light waves bouncing off a smooth pond or a shiny car hood, for instance.

As a result of this filtering, the image you see with polarized lenses is a bit darker than usual. But objects look crisper and clearer with polarized lenses, and details are easier to see.

Just heard about an Apple TV screen patent. The TV should allow up to 8 people to view a different picture in front of the device. The TV should also support three-dimensional content.

Sounds great. Waiting for a 3D comeback on TVs with Avatar 2 & sequels

Why bother. Did we really need a history lesson on polarized sunglasses?

Try wearing a pair when you go see a 3D movie

You obviously didn't understand.

Moonloop, there was a comeback before that but he preferred this one. I still can see it.

There is a budget here and I hope that it can be interesting to keep seeing and I hope that it will be good to keep looking and I feel like there are some interesting aspects which is nice too.
