I wrote them last year about this (someone here commented “You need to get laid” in response to that, how do I put a next to that) and they said they would “look into it” and get back to me but never did. I still haven’t forgiven Sony for dropping the widescreen transfers from DVDs that originally had both widescreen and pan and scan versions. Reviews haven’t even mentioned this in either a negative or positive manner, regardless anything displaying over a movie I’ve paid for is simply unacceptable.
The people in forums that tell other members they need to get laid, need to get laid.

I hardly ever watch end credits, but I do watch extras often. Maybe Sony added this feature for me.

That being said, I do find this annoying. How hard is it to just leave the movie alone?

^ Worth mentioning, the extras auto play after the end credits on these disc.

I know Universal does that on all their current discs, as if just opening the extras menu and letting us select which one we want to view was too confusing. At least they don’t have the Sony pop-up.

The 4K and Blu-ray of The Woman King also have the pop-up. As does District 9 4K.

This is another nice reason to use PC for playback (although certainly not feasible for everyone; although perhaps some TVs could play back a file on a large memory card?).

I had thought they learned their lesson. On one of the rounds of Sony UHD surveys, I complained multiple times about the pop-ups during the credits. I thought they listened since one "bonus" with the "Mask of Zorro" steelbook re-release was the removal of the pop-up that was in the previous release. Then I'm watching "No Hard Feelings" and there it is! Unbelievable.

It's yet another unforced error that someone who is completely out of touch had to have come up with. Why they think those that buy physical media want said media to approximate streaming shows, I have no idea. Just wait - one day we'll have a "Skip intro" pop-up at the beginning of any movies that actually have opening credits.

My PC doesn't support 4K. An easier option is just to sail the high seas for these movies, it's a better experience than most streaming services for the same reasons. Pretty sad when that becomes a better option than legitimate sources.

Since this thread got bumped I emailed Sony again asking why they never replied to my email last year, here's their reply:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

We apologize for the inconvenience - This request was escalated to our title managers for consideration regarding future releases, although they could not guarantee any re-work to be done on any titles we thank you for brining this to our attention.

If we receive any other updates in the near future we will let you know.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist you.
I replied that the only thing they can do to assist me at this point is reissue all the affected discs, but that isn't likely given they've kept doing it on recent titles. Told them I'm done contacting them about this though, I'll simply stop buying their discs and be done with it. I want to keep the market for physical media alive but they obviously don't.

My LG set easily plays remuxes directly off USB sticks, even 4k. And there's always media players.

I actually read a comment recently (not in here) by somebody who said they don't mind streaming sites or channels like MeTV speeding up the show, and another even said they thought old TV shows' opening and closing credits were a waste of time and should no longer be streamed or broadcast for old shows.

We're doomed.

Right, getting a bit off topic but MeTV is one of the worst channels on the air for a laundry list of reasons. But for anything that isn't a straight broadcast, the experience can and should be CUSTOMIZABLE by the user, with the default being the content played COMPLETE from start to finish uninterrupted with no displays over it. I've found workarounds for many streaming services (mainly using Kodi addons or Apple Airplay) but I have no way of playing discs other than on my Oppo player, which feels violated after playing an offending Sony disc It may be possible to make a copy of the disc and strip that menu out, but I don't have anything that can do that and is something that most forums don't allow discussion of.

And really, we shouldn't have to do that either. I get those that like to rip to hard drives for backup purposes or to have a home server setup, but we shouldn't have to do this just to be able to play the movie without interruptions. Sony seems to stay up late at night thinking up new ways to ruin the customer experience.

And honestly I hate Sony's UHDs anyways. They master their films way too bright (I thin they master at 4,000 nits but I may be wrong about that so don't hold me to that) so HDR highlights are totally blown to hell for any normal HDR display. On my ~550 nit LG 2016 set, Sony's UHDs are blown to hell. They look awful. Even using the HDR optimizer on my Panasonic player can't reign it in fully. It seems to help dramatically but they're still too blown out. So I mostly avoid their UHDs anyways. Starship Troopers is totally nuked.

(of course, the disc should not do this when using a standalone player though)

I had absolutely no idea that this was a thing until today when I clicked on the thread. Going back to the first page, it seems that this has been going on for awhile...LOL..

I guess I've been ripping my discs and watching them on my ZIDOO (and previously on my Nvidia SHIELD) for longer than I thought...I can't imagine going back.

They’re still doing this. They have it on Insidious: The Red Door. Ugh.

The downside is the audio will be down-sampled.

Clearly they are still doing this so they can later release a version without it and make us buy the movie all over again.

That “version without it” is currently digital, at least for now.

Do any UHD or Blu-ray players have a menu option to disable pop-ups or notifications?
