The Netflix original movie trend of making painfully generic action films continues. Whether it’s the story or the action you’ve seen it all done much better a hundred times before. It definitely doesn’t help that a significantly better film like Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 just came out a month ago, a franchise which Heart of Stone is clearly very inspired by.
I was actually interested in seeing this due to hearing the action was going to be practical rather than CGI based. Well that was a lie. There’s loads of CGI in this and it doesn’t look good. Even though there are some practical stunts, there’s so much digital manipulation done to them they’re ruined. The final action scene was extremely anticlimactic. It was like they completely ran out of money or ideas and just said screw it. Even though It’s less than two hours long without the credits, it feels significantly longer. The cast is boring, mostly filled with mediocre actors with no screen presence. Yet an eight time academy award nominated actress like Glen Close gets completely wasted with only a glorified cameo. There’s just so many poor decisions made here. The best thing I can say about it is it’s barely competent filmmaking. |

Gadot was great but the rest oh man. 125 min movie which felt 35 minutes to long and accept the apartment fight the Action wasn't good. So many bad CGI and bad green Screens.
Oh man this should be forbitten. Real Stunts or no Action at all. These bad CGI stuff is so painfull to watch even with the very beautiful Gal Gadot |

Is the cinematography of this quite murky, or is my tv on its way out?

Me too. It was a bit generic but entertaining nonetheless. I think a 3.5/5 stars is fair and because of Gal Gadot I'm willing to give it a 4.0/5.

There was one aspect in particular of this movie that I could not help but laugh at, and coincidentally reminded me of Captain America: Civil War. Where/how is "The Heart" getting access to all of the different camera angles?
In Civil War, this same thing happened when the Winter Soldier "met" Tony Stark's parents on that dark road. There was one fixated camera, in virtually the middle of nowhere BTW, that miraculously also provided multiple camera angles. |

2/5 on the poll for me.
I am a fan of Gal Gadot and she was pretty much the single bright spot in this otherwise underwhelming film. I don't like to be negative, but this film was just... not good in my opinion. Paper-thin characters, uninspired action set-pieces, and a dull plot. It almost felt like an algorithm came up with the screenplay. Generic, soulless... no personality. There is just no heart here. Pardon the pun. That was actually unintentional. And I say that as someone who enjoyed Tom Harper's other film The Aeronauts. I think he's a competent director, but the material (and possibly the budget) may have held him back here. I don't know... Even visually, I was not a fan. Some of the green screen was noticeable and they went for that somewhat desaturated color-grading that a lot of Netflix films go for. Netflix really wanted to emulate the Mission Impossible franchise here, but it just did not work. This film was like the antithesis of what makes the MI films so great. The MI films, especially the last few, succeed because they have an interesting plot, likeable/charismatic characters you root for, a nice team wtih an actual team dynamic (not a team that [Show spoiler] ), and practical action with inspired set pieces and stunts that look real because they are real. And the MI films just have a general kinetic energy and a fast pace that all good action films have in them. The John Wick and MI entries have really raised the bar for the modern action film. And sadly, Heart of Stone doesn't seem to have many ambitious aspirations for this genre. I am happy for those who enjoyed Heart of Stone, but it just didn't work for me. Netflix's recent production Extraction 2 was a much better action film if you ask me. Anyways, here's hoping others had a better experience with HoS. Did not enjoy this film at all but it seems to be doing well. #1 on the movie chart on NETFLIX in the US since it released.
