I love this film so much. I've personally never had any problems with the pacing or length of it. The film almost comes across as Malick-esque.

Love this movie dearly, but the last time I tried rewatching it passed the eff out within like 20 minutes. Need to try again soon, I think I was just tired.

Yeah, it's brilliant. And it does have a sort of Malick-esque feel to some of it.

And that ending sequence is one of the most beautiful most compelling endings to any film I can think of.

I love Westerns and this is a terrific one. I wish someone like Criterion would get their hands on this. There's definitely room for improvement in both pq and aq.

Yes there is. And in supplements as well, obviously. This is a film deserving of the best treatment. If Criterion were to release this, I'd be double-dipping in a heartbeat, and I'd feel absolutely no regret or reticence.

You will.
If not by the first viewing then by the second.

It's kind of my favorite film together with "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" recently passing ahead of "Blade Runner"

Brad Pitt recently named it his favorite of his own films:

Quote:
Q: When is the acting still exciting?
A: I would say more in comedic stuff, where you're taking gambles. I can turn out the hits over and over and I just—my favorite movie is the worst-performing film of anything I've done, The Assassination of Jesse James. If I believe something is worthy, then I know it will be worthy in time to come.

Thanks for posting that.

Obviously, Andrew Dominik knows more about it than I do. But how such an interesting film that involves not only Mr. Dominik, but Roger Deakins (!!!), Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, and so many others of high regard could be considered "not significant enough" is a mystery to me.

Now, of course that sounded like speculation of Mr. Dominik's part, so maybe Criterion doesn't feel that way at all. In fact, I hope to the heavens that they don't. Otherwise, I'm left wondering if Jesse James isn't significant enough, then what the heck makes something like Tiny Furniture or Jellyfish Eyes significant?! (No offense intended to fans of those films, btw.)

Anyways, sorta-rant over.

So I watched it last night and really, really liked it.

Though I have to say, I don't think it needed to be nearly three hours long.

I can see the Malick influence everyone is talking about, though I don't think it's quite as pronounced as a film like The Revenant.

Also, I just find Casey Affleck to be one of the most annoying actors in movies today.

He has to be the least talented, talented actor in the business.

...if that makes any sense.

No. It makes no sense whatsoever, since he's possibly the most talented American actor working today.

But yeah, figured you'd like it.

Now it's time to get Mulvaney on the horn!

Criterion's released plenty of useless movies, I can't believe Jesse James isn't "significant" enough for them.

There's a really good GIF involving Affleck, Jessica Alba, and a leather belt that would be so appropriate here. Unfortunately, if I post it, I'm gone -- probably for good.

So ...

I love the movie, it's fantastic but just as an aside, is our national attention span really so short that a then seven year old movie warrants 'revival screenings'.

That just sounds like guys sitting around 'reminiscing' about something that happened like two weeks earlier.

"Hey, remember that time we were in that bar..."

I'm surprised that this only has a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There are aspects of the film that could be improved imo.

...but I don't see how any self-respecting critic could give it a bad review.

I see what you're saying, but I think it has something to do with the fact that so few people saw it originally. At least that's how I interpreted it.
