I asked Fortune Star about the pre-injury footage and rumoured Alan Tam version, but they don't have it.[/QUOTE]

No worries. Any 'behind the scenes' stuff would be cool, cheers

I was actually referring to the open matte version of the Cantonese version, sorry for not being clear about that. I have only come across the UK VHS that has that one, probably other releases also that I don't know of.
The Channel 4 broadcast was in Cantonese and open matte.

Does any behind the scenes footage of this movie exist? Or even alternate outtakes? Can't seem to remember ever seeing any BTS footage except in the standard outtakes of course.

No, I was actually refering to the Miramax print! Should have been more specific

Yes, Channel 4 (in the UK) broadcast the open matte version.

Speaking of fan customs... it would be interesting to have a soundtrack where the Chinese characters speak Cantonese and the European characters speak English.

That was the master MIHK used for their VHS.

Based on the outtakes of the Channel 4 version linked to, it seems this is the same version that the UK vhs was based on. The other unique thing about this version is that the opening doesn't have any opening credits, and the timing of the ending credits seem to be different also.

Do we have any idea who the hell was commissioned to do Media Asia's new dub for the HK cut heard on the HKL DVD onwards? It's not Rik Thomas and his gang of usuals at Omni.

Same people who did Mr. Vampire's first dub? I don't know...

I think it was done in Australia - ditto their new dubs for Swordsman and Chinese Ghost Story.

Rik Thomas got better with age -I still can't place his accent, but he was less robotic by the 00s. And he was Galvatron!

Will we get the English dub with Jackie's own voice?

1. It's based on the shortened export cut. I dunno if that merits inclusion for this release but who knows.
2. What's left of Miramax presumably still holds the rights to the audio, which might be outside of 88's sphere of legal influence.

Also, just to have fun I made a version of the Dimension Films dub with the Michael Lai score restored:

I remember reading that the film was completed with Alan Tam as the star (in case Jackie didn't recover), and that it was broadcast in Spain.

Wait, what! There is a whole version of this film with a different actor?

Woooo, wow, I've NEVER heard that before.

Not sure it would've worked with Tam as Hawk, but it would be a fascinating extra for sure. Presumably he would've been doubled even more than Jackie

I presume Alan just sings to the monks in the great hall Instead of fighting them in that version?

Mopping the sweat from his brow with a hankie in between songs.

Wow. I've never come across that story before. Sounds like it would be a little lame and completely change the film.

I would have thought so… until I saw 'The Last Blood'.

It might have been KingKing or someone. As I say, it's just a rumour.

One way would be to ask Alan himself, or even Eric Tsang (originally the director before Jackie took over upon his recovery).
