Just sent a reminder to my Sony engineer friend and expect confirmation shortly. I do expect the BFI will be selectable.

Here's the official answer:

The BFI is now called Motion XR.

Motion XR tracks the objects moving and apply BFI (per zones on LED) (linear zones on OLED) this allows the TV to maintain overall brightness while improving motion resolution and motion artifacts.

Can that be turned off, or is it "hardwired" and non defeatable?

@wxman2003, From what I'm told it's selectable On or Off

If all goes as scheduled we'll receive Sony's 1st allocation Monday, February 22nd and I'll be testing all of the motion resolution menus and settings that are now named "Cinema Motion and the new XR Motion Zone"

We'll also test the peak luminance in several window sizes.

I'll also have our calibrator, John with all of his professional video equipment, including Klein K10-A meter, Jeti 1501 VIS spectroradiometer, Murideo Six-G Gen2 pattern generator.

Robert, have we confirmed that the A90J is using both the heatsink and the Evo panel? Also, is the A80J brighter than a past oled by sticking with the new heatsink but lacks the Evo panel? If this were the case, it would put the A90J in its own league, while the LG G1 and A80J would be similar to each other tho each using a different method.

@Darkmninya, most TVs are delayed this year.

@ray0414, not yet, but I'll be carefully checking our A90Js and report back my findings.

As promised here's the .pdf spec sheet that includes details on the 55", 65" and for the first time the 83" A90J!

Robert did you say you were going to have these in store for sale in the 22nd? Does that mean you'll have a demo unit up too?

Due to weather delays our first shipment is now scheduled to arrive March 3rd. Yes, we'll have the A90J on display in our showroom.

Near black was always very good on Sony's OLED TVs and they have improved over the model year with some firmware updates.

Unacceptable! Don't give us the flimsy excuse of the winter blizzard griping the US, for not personally driving down to Mexico and picking one up.

On a serious note, I imagine, you are probably more disappointed than us, delaying the time you can put your eyes on one of these bad boys.
