Wow! I never thought I'd ever see the earliest seasons look so good. I remember years back in the HTF chats with WA reps, they always said the Lorimar assets were in a miserable state. I assumed that meant no negatives for the earlier seasons. Very happy that's not the case.
I well remember the impact this show had, as the storylines were an excited topic of conversation between the older members of my family. I latched on by osmosis and was following it in the third season which ended with the "who shot J.R. cliffhanger. The summer of 1980 was all about ESB, wondering if Mt St. Helens was going to erupt again, and Dallas/WSJR speculation. Those first four seasons were a great ride. After that it's still highly compulsive viewing, but the eighties cheese smell starts getting really potent around the fifth season with some of the eye rolling character behavior (Pam) and the absence of patriarch anchor Jim Davis. But cheese and all, if it gets released in a complete series Bd set it'll be hard to pass up. |

Lorimar probably had stuff in boxes all over the place, uncatalogued and disorganized, beyond the broadcast master tapes that were on a shelf somewhere. That's how 99.9% of the studio and network assets are. Even WB has only arranged and catalogued a small amount of their in-house stored production materials.

No news on a blu ray release yet but a few more screen grabs from the HD remaster...

Love to see it on BD. Many of DVD;s never worked back then it was for sale years ago. Many of them lock up and freeze.

The audio sync is slightly out in some of these youtube scenes.
Hope that is fixed properly for any release. |

We enjoyed watching this when we were first married. I'd love to go through it again in HD. (Hopefully OAR.) We might even make it through all of S9 this time.

I hope that's not the case. I would gladly rebuy this as a complete BD set. I don't often upgrade my tv sets, but this is one that I would in a heartbeat.

Honestly, I feel like WB will just throw it on the ad-supported streaming services to continuously monetize it with ad-money and not release a BD set, since they could make more in the long run by not releasing it. That seems to be their current strategy with both old and newish catalog content.
