Did my Chicagoland circuit yesterday; one of my best trips in a while. Picked up several 4K steelbooks I was missing that I wasn't willing to pay full retail on (Saw with plastic slip for $9, Star Wars The Last Jedi with J-card for $14) as well as several IMAX 3D Blu-rays I didn't have.
The best items were mint copies of Guardians of the Galaxy 3D steelbook and Rogue One 3D steelbook, both with original J-cards. The big purchase of the day tickled my OCD packaging completionist bone for my 3D collection, finding a complete Marvel Phase Two Amazon-exclusive box set for $149. ![]() |

Stopped by the Champaign, IL store today and they had taken in a (relatively) large number of 4K steelbooks. I picked up one for my collection that I had missed on initial release: Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald, for $12.99.
If anyone is looking for one, as of last night they had one of the Harry Potter 4K Steelbook Collection box sets available for $199. The outer box is a bit scratched up, but spot checking the individual steelbooks, they looked fine. I already have it (although I paid more for mine) and I don't think there's enough to make it worthwhile flipping after paying 9% sales tax and eBay fees, so posting here if someone in the area needs one. |

Took a day-long trip yesterday up through Chicagoland into northwest Indiana and down through West Lafayatte, hittin 8 Disc Replay stores in total. I keep thinking that at some point I'm going to hit a brick wall with respect to diminished return, but I always find new items for my 4K steelbook collection and 3D Blu-Ray collection. The former is easier than the latter as I'm a bit of a latecomer to 4K steelbooks, and I've pretty well saturated the domestic 3D releases.
I think that what may inevitably end up killing these day-long jaunts isn't what I find or don't find but rather the ever-spiraling cost of gas, now closing in on $4 per gallon. Thanks for printing all that money, US Gov't... looking forward to a decade of hyperinflation. Anyhoo, in addition to 10 or so titles for the trade pile, I picked up the following keepers. A Turtle's Tale 2 3D. First time I've actually seen this one on all my jaunts. Foil slipcover. ![]() The Elf on a Shelf Presents "An Elf's Story" 3D. A 23-minute movie? Ok... seems like something created to sell Elf on a Shelf crap. ![]() REO Speedwagon - Live in the Heartland. Very scarce and long OOP blu-ray. While I paid a premium, it still was well below typical eBay sold prices. ![]() 300: Rise of an Empire 3D. UK steelbook still sealed. Tickling my 3D packaging completist bone. ![]() Final Destination 5 in 3D. Best Buy-exclusive 3-disc edition. Lenticular slipcover. Getting very tough to find. ![]() Glass 4K UHD. Best Buy-exclusive with clear plastic slipcover and collector cards. ![]() Ghostbusters (2016) 4K + 3D + BR steelbook. I didn't want to pay full freight on this one, but the 3D completist in me said OK for less than $20. ![]() Dunkirk 4K UHD steelbook. I have no idea what this is since there was no J-card. It might be a frankensteel. The U.S. didn't get a 4K Steelbook for this. The discs don't have UK rating symbols. The disc text is in English, but on each it says "Made in Austria". Inside there is a cardboard sleeve with a bonus blu-ray special features disc, again all text in English. What gives? ![]() And lastly a 4K steelbook I didn't buy when it was available, but decided to snag it well below eBay sold prices. Ford v. Ferrari. ![]() |

Just a heads-up for anyone keeping track, the Bloomington IL location of Disc Replay went out of business with no notice a few weeks ago. No final sell-off of inventory, nothing. They just posted on FB one day that they were out of business effective immediately. Not sure what happened there.

The last few weeks have been good with respect to Disc Replay pickups, both at my local store and during one trip up through Chicagoland, especially tickling my 3D packaging/variant completionist bone.
I also picked up a mint copy of the Star Wars Saga 4K box for $99. I wasn't going to buy it initially, but after consideration, I opted to as it allows me to keep my 4K steelbook set still sealed. Interesting pickups: Avengers 3D steelbook, still sealed. ![]() Independence Day Resurgence 3D steelbook, still sealed. ![]() Black Panther 3D steelbook, still sealed. ![]() Prometheus 3D slipcase with photo booklet. How many different versions of this thing did they release? I already had 3-disc and 4-disc versions, but this was the first time I've seen the 4-disc version with slipcase and photo booklet. It appears to have been a Target exclusive. ![]() ![]() ![]() Justice League 3D. Best Buy exclusive with slipcover and sealed pack of trading cards still intact. ![]() Blade Runner 2049 3D. Wasn't expecting to find this over here. Disc Replay had a big honking "REGION B ONLY" sticker on it, but according to the back it's all-region. Haven't had a chance to check it yet. ![]() Ultimate 3D Experience Box Set: Avatar + Titanic. Lovely import set. Appears to be all-region. In addition to the slipcase, each movie is also in its own slipcover. Avatar is the same lenticular slipcover as the U.S. release, but Titanic is in a gorgeous gold-foil slip. Infinitely better than the artwork used on the U.S. release. ![]() ![]() ![]() Silent Hill Revelation 3D. Hadn't seen this one before. Has a great lenticular slipcover. ![]() Lastly, a pickup that made me smirk. I frequently lament how Disc Reply typically overprices what they deem new or collectible. Used items are frequently priced the same or higher than what you can get new product for online. I find that having a smartphone to do on-the-spot price lookups comparisons is absolutely mandatory when shopping there. However, they occasionally miss the mark entirely... this is brand new still sealed. Sure, why not? ![]() ![]() |

Looks like this thread got moved/buried into the Retail/Shopping subsection, but just a reminder if anyone ever sees this, the holiday sales at Mega Disc/Replay stores are pretty darn good. This weekend their already good prices are an additional 50% off Blu-rays/Boxed Sets, 70% off DVDs.
My score included: Superman Animated Series BLU: $15 Suicide Squad (2021) 4K: $6.50 Audrey Hepburn 7-Movie Collection BLU: $15 Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy Season 1 BLU: $15 Doctor Who Tom Baker Season 7 BLU: $20 Doctor Who Colin Baker Season 2 BLU: $17.50 |

Be careful, not ALL locations are participating. It depends on the ownership group. For example, Chicagoland Disc Replay stores are not participating, but most Indiana and Michigan stores are. Champaign DR is doing slightly different, Buy 2 Get 2 free, which is effectively the same as long as you get 4 titles; a subtle difference but not exactly 50% off.

Just a heads-up for anyone interested in steelbooks: as of yesterday evening, the Highland, Indiana Disc Replay still has a good 40-50 4K and blu-ray steelbooks, including sealed and OOP titles. Some of the prices would normally be a bit high, but at 50% off many are downright reasonable. The 50% off even applies to new sealed merchandise.
I stopped by late yesterday afternoon and it was an absolute feeding frenzy. The store was jammed and people were going to town with purchases. Most notable acquisitions (prices after 50% off): The Final Countdown 4K + Blu-Ray + CD, new. $17.50 The And-Man and the Wasp 3D steelbook. $25.00 Kingsman The Golden Circle, Best Buy exclusive 4K steelbook, still sealed. $12.50 Braveheart 4K steelbook, still sealed. $12.50 Ready Player One 4K steelbook. $12.50 Pet Sematary 4K steelbook. $15.00 The Matrix Trilogy 4K steelbook. $35.00 |

For those in the Indianapolis area, the 2 locations of "The Exchange" while not actively publicizing sale discounts like Disc Replay is, when I brought up the DR sale, they said "we'll see what we can do" and "we'll work with you". In my case, it wound up being a 40% discount. So not as big a cut as DR, but not shabby... especially as they had some out of print 4k steelbooks underpriced to begin with. Not complaining.
P.S. Sale prices are good through tomorrow (Sunday). I hit up 7 DR stores + the 2 Exchange stores today. Ginormous haul! |

Just a heads-up that Indiana and Michigan Disc Replay stores are having a 50%-off movie sale (both DVDs and Blu-Rays) through December 24th.
Unexpectedly, so is the Naperville, Illinois store, which is odd as it is an independently owned store, not affiliated with either the Indiana or Michigan ownership groups, nor the Chicagoland stores (Countryside, Downer's Grove, Orland Park) which share a common rewards coupon system. When I visited the Naperville store yesterday, they had out signs saying "50% off DVDs" exclusively (no mention of Blu-Rays or the generic "movies"). As I was browsing, I lamented about some of the pricing on some of the 4K steelbooks, and the clerk said "those are 50% off too", so I made a small stack. Typically they are overpriced on used steelbooks, but 50% off makes them more palatable. When I checked out, I mentioned that I had a 20%-off rewards coupon, fully expecting it to not stack with sale pricing (Indiana stores never stack sale prices and rewards coupons), but the clerk said "Sure, you can use it on this"... at which point I said "Hold that thought" and went back for even more titles. I couldn't pass it up, and in retrospect I should have picked up more for my trade pile. No J-cards with any of them, but for the prices, I'm not complaining! Net prices (before sales tax): Babymetal Live in Wembley - $20.00 Black Panther 4K steelbook - $12.00 Captain Marvel 4K steelbook - $8.00 Casino Royale 4K steelbook - $8.00 Skyfall 4K steelbook - $12.00 Iron Man 2 4K steelbook - $8.00 Iron Man 3 4K steelbook - $8.00 Joker 4K steelbook - $8.00 Kingsman 2-Movie Collection 4K steelbook - $6.00 Sonic the Hedgehog 4K steelbook - $4.80 Wall-E 4K steelbook - $16.00 Chernobyl 4K steelbook - $16.00 Zack Snyder's Justice League Trilogy 4K set - $20.00 |
