I was really excited for this release until I had the same thought. I was initially thinking we would be getting something like what Arrow did with Waterworld but I have a sneaky suspicion it will be more like what Shout did with The Thing.

I was wondering the same thing. The Studio Canal transfer released in Europe is serviceable, but after making Region A fans wait so long, you'd think we'd at least get a remastered release.

I'm going to go on a limb and say it will have a new transfer. Since it's taken so long to get a release, I think it's somewhat of a safe bet. We'll see.

Oddly, I have never seen this film from beginning to end - only bits and pieces on TV. I think the main reason I've avoided it was I was waiting for a better physical media release - looks like that's going to be remedied now. I don't have a whole lot of expectation for it, though. Another reason I've avoided it was the poor creature design. I never liked how Kong looks in this version. Too campy looking, not menacing enough. The effects, well that's another story

This thread is on fire, easily out-pacing the threads for the 3 much-wanted 80's horror flicks Scream announced at the same time. I think KK '76 will do very well for Scream!

This is the version of King Kong that I grew up with, though I have come to enjoy his other movies versions as well. Can't wait to add this to my collection.

BTW, anyone remember this? They did an article on the movie and showed a behind the scenes giant model laying on the ground at the bottom of TWT center. I think they also talked about the giant hand they used to pick up Jessica Lange.
