In Sound of Metal, a tale of sound, fury, and self-discovery, Riz Ahmed delivers an intensely committed performance as the volatile Ruben, who has found new purpose as a drummer in a noise-metal duo, playing blistering live shows with his singer girlfriend, Lou (Olivia Cooke). When Ruben suddenly loses much of his hearing, he is launched on a profound odyssey—through denial, anger, grief, and, gradually, acceptance—as he comes to understand what it means to live as a deaf person and to discover deafness as not a disability but a rich culture and community. Through stunningly immersive, Academy Award–winning sound design, director Darius Marder invites us to experience the world as Ruben does, capturing a sonic spectrum in which silence comes in a thousand shades.
Was Dolby Vision HDR dropped from the release? The original post that I'm quoting showed this:

Quote:
4K digital master, supervised by director Darius Marder and cinematographer Daniël Bouquet, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray and 4K UHD editions
For the 4K UHD edition: One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features
New conversation between Marder and filmmaker Derek Cianfrance, who share a story credit on the film
New program about the film’s sound, featuring Marder and sound designer Nicolas Becker
Music video for Abraham Marder’s song “Green,” featuring outtakes from the film
Featurettes
Trailer
English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
PLUS: An essay by critic Roxana Hadad
They now show this on the site:

Yes it appears so, it's on Amazon in HDR10 too. Amazon doesn't do Dolby Vision, which might be why.

I just wondering if regular hdr got drop to but it’s good to know it not like Night of the living dead with no hdr at all.

Their website doesn't mention HDR so it seems as though it is an SDR release. Raging Bull doesn't have Dolby Vision but it still mentions being HDR on their site so if it was an HDR10 release it'd mention it I believe

Don't know, but it's probably just the 4K stream, but now on a disc.

I forgot to mention it here but I emailed them last month about that and they responded back by saying it only had HDR10.

Yeah they do, since the start of this month. Rings of Power, Jack Ryan, and Wheel of Time are the only 3 that have that option so far.

Nope. Amazon stream is one thing. Criterion UHD another.

Can anyone that’s received their copy comment on the subtitles? Someone over on Reddit is saying that it only contains a single subtitle track for English SDH and is missing the burned in subs that it has on streaming. Apparently it means if you want to see the subtitles for the sign language scenes, you’ll get subtitles for everything (including sound effects and music cues) and even then it’s lacking subtitles for a few scenes (apparently when he’s learning sign language and starting to understand it there are no subtitles, when those scenes are subtitled with burned-in subs on the Amazon Prime stream).

This is true. I couldn't remember the situation with the Amazon stream, but the Criterion disc only has optional SDH subtitles that do include everything (sound effects and dialogue) and are definitely missing a few of the signing scenes (I turned them on to see if I was missing something and they were blank during the couple that I checked).

Bummer. So are there still burned in subs for the most important parts of signed dialogue though? I assume the film is watchable with the subtitles turned off?

No there are no burned subtitles at all, even for the sign language scenes where they should be there.

It's watchable without the subtitles, but you're missing some of the conversation with the deaf community as Ruben learns to sign. Though the gist comes through...

This should get a replacement.
