Would rather not have a Steelbook but would gladly have Galaxy Quest. Espeically with VAR.

I swear to God if this gets a 4K release before the Original Series Star Trek films...

And this is coming from someone who loves this film as well!

I'll go so far as to say that Star Trek 1-4 and 6 were the only half-way decent films, warts and all. And parts of Voyager were the last good television bits having to do with Trek (the Doc and Seven of Nine were awesome characters!). Original Trek, TNG, and DS9 were mostly quite good. I could stand the cardboard sets and hammy acting of the 60's show for at least attempting to explore some sociopolitical topics as solid science fiction tries to do.

Too bad they didn't release the full, uncut version on home video.
The edited F-bomb is infamous, I just meant I'd never heard of any desire to restore an original cut nor was there ever talk of there being a complete alternate version in Paramount's vaults, but I also haven't watched that documentary yet.

Speaking of which, maybe the documentary could be included on the disc; that'd be a nice extra.

Bad Robot has nothing to do with Picard or the new streaming shows.
Go watch the first couple seasons of TNG and tell me how great that was.

The new shows are TREK for the 21st Century. No '80s nonsense like a psychologist on the bridge (all respect to Marina, it was a bad idea).
And there's plenty of sociopolitical things in the new shows as well. I've noticed the fans who are the most open minded (the very basis of being a true TREK fan - IDIC) have embraced the new stuff and made them the success they are now.

I watched the BD again a bit ago, and while it looks pretty good, I would very gladly upgrade to 4k, since this is such a fun and funny movie, and has the potential to look awesome.
The BD has the shifting aspect ratios, and I cannot imagine a release without them, as they are integral to the storytelling.
Please make it happen!

The BD only shifts from 4:3 straight to 2.35. In theaters, the 4:3 opened to 1.85 for the next 20 minutes or so. It went to 2.35 when the doors of the Protector open and Jason realizes for the first time that he's actually in outer space.

As much as I loved the idea I found it distracting that for 20 minutes I was watching a small trapezoid with crooked pillar bars (Also the same for Life of Pi and Grand Budapest Hotel). It'll work better on a TV with good geometry but those of us without CIH projectors will still be stuck with four borders.

I also felt the dubbing/ADR worked so perfectly (It's a TV show) that it seemed intentional - I'd happily watch an uncut version but don't think I'd enjoy it as much.

You might want to take another look at your dvd.

One of my favourite movies - hoping for a UK release of this (I can't abide those slimline cases that get used for UHDs in the US).

Oh, I didn't remember that at all. Sounds cool though, but I can live wiht how it is on the BD. I really hope this will see a 4k release.

Paramount is still looking to make another Galaxy Quest in some form or another so this should inevitably get a 4K release.

Oh yes, B.R. through its subsidiary was involved with Picard. The first two seasons of TNG were superior to the dreck that was Picard even if they were uneven IMHO... caricatures of the characters.

What I'm not open minded to is straight up poor writing and J.J.'s Trek movies and influenced TV shows are wonderful examples of that. My god they bastardized the Klingons for one! WTH were they thinking!? Notice, I am not basing my decisions to dislike the new STD based on whether or not the main character is black and a woman (good on them), which was an ugly aspect to that show's online dissenters. I'm basing it purely on story decisions and writing quality.

Yes, it is coming (and soon; not inevitably). That's what this thread is about. Announcing it's coming (even though it's not OFFICIAL) because Best Buy seems to have let the cat out of the bag.

I don't think I will as it would probably depress me that I must be mixing it up with seeing at the cinema for the last 15 years or so!

I do hope the 4k disc has at least the option to watch it as intended.

Are you sure Paramount is releasing Galaxy Quest on 4K Blu-ray?

No it is not. Secret Hideout is not affiliated with Bad Robot. And CBS worked independently of Paramount for the first season.

Code of Honor says "hi".

Anyway this is the Galaxy Quest thread. Not a b**** about the newer TREK thread.

I'm hoping they finally do the aspect ratio change (pillarboxed to 1.85 in the 2.35 frame) and an Atmos remix by Skywalker Sound.

Really? This sounds awful to me. I’d rather they not do it at all then do it this way. Honestly, I think Parisot was right when he chose not to preserve the shifting ratio for home viewing. Unless you’re using a 2.35:1 projection screen, it just doesn’t make sense.

IDK, so many people buying 65”+ TVs because the prices have plummeted, odd aspect ratios like the upcoming Snyder cut aren’t much of an issue anymore.

That’s just my view on it, anyway.
