I always use DVDCompare when I'm making a purchase to ensure I have the most 'complete' version available; sometimes this means double-dipping if the 'complete' lacks lossless audio or video or is cut, etc., but that website is Olympus-sent in its usefulness. Since I've known of it, it's been my go-to. Here you can compare for yourself, though be advised, it's really just the soccer match footage (included on its own) that I would considered worthy (the other exclusive extra is just a Q&A with Coppola, but it's just okay). Oh, and there's extended coverage of Coppola meeting the students who wrote him the letter that convinced him to do the film in the first place, if that interests you. http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=19369 |

Me too but I'm glad to own the Theatrical Cut in HD when I bought it from itunes for $4.99. Waited and Waited for that price it's also Movies Anywhere which means it's also on my Vudu and Fandango Now.
Same deal with Roman Holiday, bought the HD digital on itunes but after 15 years they finally released on bluray which I bought! and then redeemed the code on Vudu since it's Paramount. Will a 4K of The Outsiders both cuts be released? Well since Roman Holiday [and even Just One Of The Guys and Ice Castles came out on bluray] nothing's impossible! |

Coppola wanted a more period accurate soundtrack and never really liked his father's score for this movie. So it was changed for this version. And I say this as someone who mostly prefers the Complete Novel version, the music changed was a bad idea.

I'm not gonna on another tirade about the music choice for the Complete Novel edition because it's so stupidly absurd. The Complete novel is superior, but god the music choice is so dumb, and that he didn't like his Father's score for the movie is kinda disrespectful.

I thought it was a good purchase, but do keep in mind, as with most French releases, it is incredibly non English-friendly (with, ugh, forced subtitles on all extras). Worth it just for the original WB logo included though (the old school one Coppola used with the Complete Novel edit; it's missing from Warner's Blu-ray, since they looooove to paste their newest logos onto everything under the sun). |

I’ll probably be in the minority, but for the “floating heads” style, I really like that artwork.
Now why doesn’t the U.S. ever get these big fancy box set editions for 4K releases?! |
