TBF it is much more similar to early works of Cronenberg and Argento than Strickland and Wheatley's work, but otherwise his review of Censor is spot on imo. It's an intelligently made, stylish film with a lot going for it, but ultimately it's stretched thin and a little sterile because the depth isn't there to make more of the subject. Good, not great.

There are similarities to Berbarian Sound Studio for sure, but not so much Strickland's other works or Wheatley beyond some thematic similarities, but I don't think Collins was trying to draw any strong comparisons to their work, more just saying "trying to do a similar thing as films they've done".

The blu-ray listing on Amazon has been taken down it seems. It no longer comes up in a search or is accessible through the DVD listing. The link on my pre-order goes to a "Sorry. We can't find that page", yet I have not received notice that my order is cancelled.

Found this to be deathly boring. Extraneous thoughts about real life kept invading my mind while I was watching it through glazed eyes, which doesn't happen often to me. Thankfully, Niahm Algar is an interesting actress. If it weren't for her, I probably wouldn't have finished it.

Vinegar Syndrome will release Censor sometime later this year.

Not bad, from initially DVD-only to 4K Bu-ray!

She is a exceptional actress who I have been keeping tabs on since the tv mini series ‘The Virtues’.

I got to know her in Raised by Wolves, then Wrath of Man. Not familiar with The Virtues.

it was directed by Shane Meadows of ‘This Is England’ fame.

Stephen Graham (another favourite actor of mine) is in both.

I highly recommend both.

I’m also a big fan of Meadows (well This is England) and Graham and was wanting to check The Virtues out!

I would start with ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’. Excellent film.

So THAT'S why it was canceled! So this is one hell of an upgrade.

He certainly is. This was the film that convinced me to track all the director’s future films.

Paddy had a role in the final series of ‘This Is England’ but they couldn’t get it to fit and had to cut the scenes.

They are included with the Blu-ray.

Wasn’t a fan of this, tbh. Expected better, but it just kind of meandered to nothing. Also maybe I’m in the minority but I thought the lead actress was really weak.

So.... the horror movie equivalent to Brazil?

While far from perfect, it's not bad for a directorial debut. Niamh Algar Is obviously talented. But her performance here is too one-note.

That's frustrating. It's a beautiful(ly weird) film, and would be a day-one for me on 4k. I mean, they got me anyways cause I'll still get it on blu-ray.

They'll give you an $8 refund if you keep the preorder or a full refund if you email by November 1.
